Here are your morning announcements for Wednesday, December 19th.

Congratulations to Girl’s Soccer! On Monday FVHS Girl’s Soccer hosted matches vs. Woodbridge High School. All three levels were victorious with varsity leading the way with a score of 3-0. Kasey Reeve, Madison Gomez and Dakota Griggs tallied goals for the squad.  Junior Varsity also blanked the Warriors with a score of 2-0 with goals from Kelly Clarke and Sarah Djafri. Goalkeepers Grace Dinh & Danielle Naughton recorded the shutout.   Our Frosh/Soph won convincingly with a score of 5-0 with two goals each from Gabby Johnson & Leah Gates and one goal apiece for Mackenzie Alexander and Ameera Khalil.  Good luck to the Lady Barons in their next match this Thursday, Dec 20th! Varsity and JV travel to Saddleback and Frosh/Soph host Ocean View HS.

Hey Barons..It’s time to start scouring the pantry and cupboards for canned or boxed goods for our Can Food Drive that is taking place NOW through Friday…Collection bags have been distributed to your 1st period class and the class with the most cans, will enjoy a pizza party.  Remember the challenge…3 cans per student and staff… Tomorrow bring 2 cans to the bowl at lunch and get your picture taken with Santa!

 

Attention Seniors – Many of you are ordering transcripts for colleges that are part of the Common App., and for the UC’s and Cal State’s.  These transcripts are being ordered and paid for unnecessarily.  You do not need to be sending individual transcripts to the colleges that are part of the common application process.  Also, the UC’s and the Cal States’ do not want a transcript at this time.  You should only be sending your transcript if the colleges are asking you to do so.  Please see Mrs. Karathanas or Mrs. Wakeman before you order transcripts and pay the fee.

PSAT Results Night and Junior Parent Night will be held on Tuesday, Jan 8th at 6:30pm in the St Cafeteria. Any sophomore or junior who took the test can pick up the results that evening. We will do a test interpretation and then juniors can stay for college  and EAP information. (12/19, 21)

Juniors & Seniors don’t miss a great opportunity!  Earn High School credit taking a fun and challenging ROP course?  Gain experience and knowledge in your chosen career field before you graduate from high school.  Get skills and training that will show your dedication and commitment to your career path on college applications and job resumes.  This is your last week to sign up for a class.   Registration for spring semester ROP courses will take place the week we return from holiday break.  For questions or to sign up, see Ms Sanders in the Career Center.

Here is a great opportunity to design the logo for Grad Night 2013, “Around the World in One Knight.”  The student artist with the winning design will win a free ticket to the 2013 Grad Night event, a prize valued at $100.  Flyers, which outline all the contest rules and specifics, are available at the Activities Office or on our website at www.fvhsgradnight.com.  All entries must be submitted to the Activities Office by January 11, 2013 before 3 pm.

Any current football players, any football players currently playing another sport, any student interested in football please come meet the new football coach Ray Fenton today at lunch in the Football Weight room.

 

The Air Force will be here at lunch today. Stop by their table outside the St. Cafeteria and learn about enlisting, becoming a pilot and NROTC Scholarships that they offer. (today only)

Don’t miss the Vocal Music Annual Holiday Concert – CLASSICS & CAROLS – held tomorrow night Dec 20th at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (next to Newport Harbor High School).  The concert is at 7:00 p.m. and features all 7 of our incredible high school choirs, in addition to some great brass players and lots of special holiday surprises!   Tickets are on sale TODAY from 11:30 to 1:00 and tomorrow 11:30 to 1:00, outside of Room 307.    The concert is expected to sell out, so get your tickets soon.   Prices range from $5-$15.   Come get your big dose of holiday music and cheer!

mailed to your home. If you still need an ordering packet, pick one up now in the Activities Office.

Don’t forget the Ring Man will be on campus “tomorrow” by the Cafeteria before school & during
Lunch for Class Ring Orders & Delivery. Please remember to bring your $50.00 deposit to place your
ring order. Extra ordering packets are available in the Activities Office.

Congratulations to the Mock Trial team, who won round 6 of competition last Thursday versus
Trabuco Hills High School. Outstanding performances were given by Austin Jenkins, Hillary Tran
Samia Syed, Vi Pham, Jar-Yee Liu, Victor Lee, Jackie Nguyen, Daniel Ahn, Vicky Nguyen and
Brandon Nguyen. The Defense team will compete tomorrow night at the OC Superior Courthouse.
This team is in the Top 4 in the County. Good Luck Mock Trial and GO BIG RED.

FV wrestlers continued their success this past weekend. The freshmen team won the Peninsula
Tournament . Tinh Nguyen, Isaiah Prado and Zack Summers continued to stay undefeated this year.
The Varsity went 8 and 1 taking 2nd place and only losing by 2 points in the finals at the Magnolia
Tournament. Quentin Gomez and Blake Vasquez placed 2nd in their divisions. Bryant Vasquez,
Nathan Bazan, Steel and Stone Escobedo all took 1st at the tournament. Congratulations to all of our
wrestlers on a great start to the season.

Attention all winter sports captains: Please meet in room 410 at lunch on Thursday. We need to see
you regarding the Winter Rally.

Come see our Orchestra and new Chamber Orchestra tomorrow night at 7:30 in Room 310. The
concert is free.

If you are interested in purchasing Baron Wear Sweatshirts before the Winter Break you MUST order
at the Financial Office by tomorrow at lunch. Your Baron Wear will be delivered on December

The contest is for young women ages 17- 24 who live, work or go to school in Fountain Valley.
Education scholarships in excess of $13,000 will be awarded. The winner will go on to represent the
city at the Miss California Pageant in June. Application deadline is December 31, 2012.

Today marks 71 years since the Japanese air attack on Pearl Harbor. December 7, 1941 is a day that forever changed our nation’s history and will never be forgotten.

 

Congratulations to the Boys’ Varsity soccer team for winning their first game of the season 3-1 against Santa Ana High School. The Barons where led on defense by Kenji Louer and Ryan Brown. Jesus Payan sparked the offense with two goals and Joey Aquino finished the game off scoring the third goal. The Barons look to defend their title this Friday in the Irvine Challenge tournament against Los Osos and El Toro. Good Luck!!!

Congratulations to the Mock Trial team who crushed Canyon High School last night in Round 5 of competition. Outstanding performances were given by Alicia Lam, Elissa Wu, Pauline Nguyen, Heng-Yi Liu, Jackie Nguyen, Thomas Mundi, Vi Dang, Joshua Tran, Sarah Tang, and Hillary Tran. The Prosecution team will compete tomorrow night in Round 6.  FVHS Mock Trial is in the TOP EIGHT teams of Orange County! Good luck Mock Trial and GO BIG RED!

 

Congratulations to the Girls’ Frosh Soph Basketball team for going 4-0 in the Marina Tournament and taking home the championship!  Great job ladies!  The Varsity Girls Basketball won 57-35 against Long Beach Jordan last night.  The Lady Barons look to win again tonight against El Modena here at FVHS at 7:30pm.  Come check out the Lady Barons Hoop Challenge all this week in the gym.

Congratulations to our Girls Soccer Frosh/Soph team for winning their second match in a row by the score of 4-1 over Laguna Hills. Freshman- Gabby Johnson & Leah Gates scored two goals each in the victory.

Girls Varsity Soccer opened the 2012-13 season with a convincing 2-0 win over Laguna Hills. Vallerie Holler and Vanessa Kemper tallied goals for the Lady Barons while goalkeepers Jr- Alyson Marlow & Freshman- Kaelyn Whitcomb recorded shutouts.  Girls varsity soccer next match is this Friday at the Irvine Classic against 2012 CIF champs – Los Osos HS!

The swim team will be holding tryouts January 16th for the Spring 2013 season.  If you are interested in joining the team, stop by the pool deck tomorrow.

Here are your morning announcements for Monday, December 3rd:

Congratulations to our 8th ranked varsity wrestlers who began their season this past weekend at
the Westminster Classic. Place winners include Seniors Lennon Gomez, Nathan Bazan, and Nick
Franks, Junior Bryant Vasquez, Sophomore Stone Escobedo and Freshmen newcomer Blake
Vasquez. Steel Escobedo won his weight class for the second straight year and is the #1 ranked
wrestler in Orange County. They all hope to continue their success this weekend at the Magnolia
tournament.

Congratulations to the Mock Trial team for their 3-1 record in the regular season. Notable
performances have been given by Sarah Tang, Samia Syed, Austin Jenkins, Vi Pham, Thomas
Mundi, Heng-Yi Liu, and Pauline Nguyen. Only the top 16 teams in OC go to playoffs and FVHS
Mock Trial will be one of them! They are headed to the Orange County Superior Courthouse
tomorrow night to compete in playoffs. Good luck Mock Trial and Go Big RED!

Attention participants in the Ping Pong tournament: the bracket has been adjusted. Please check the
front of the activities office for the revised bracket as soon as possible and plan accordingly. Sorry for
the inconvenience!

Come see Fountain Valley Theatre’s production of William Shakespeare’s classic comedy Twelfth
Night. The play opens with a student preview tomorrow, December 4th and runs through December

Zick for more information. Don’t miss this crazy comedy of mistaken identity.
