CSF students give UCLA campus an A-plus

FVHS’s CSF club scheduled a college field trip visit to UCLA this Thursday. CSF stands for California Scholarship Foundation and it is one of the largest clubs on campus.

Every year, CSF plans college field trips for its members. Students get to skip an entire day of school to experience and explore the college to get a feel of whether or not the school is right for them. CSF visited Chapman University last year.

Treasurer Mimi Chen (’14) said, “This year we chose the schools UCLA and CalTech for our trips because they are two very popular schools.”

Because of our selection, we have definitely seen an increase in student participation within the club since they want to qualify for the trip,” said Chen.

Spots were limited and students were required to attend a certain amount of events to be able to go to these events. Students that were chosen to attend this event were required to fill out a permission slip to be able to be excused from periods one through five.

This year, students also had to purchase and wear the club T shirt during the field trip. If a student failed to do so, he or she would not be allowed on the bus. The Club Meeting this Thursday was also canceled due to the trip.

Students ate food at a dining hall and explored dorm life.

“The food was really good, only $7.50 for all you can eat, and the dorm was very really small and cozy,” said field trip-goer Elise Dang (’14). “I feel like I experienced the college life today.”

After the trip, ten students were asked if they would apply to UCLA. They all said yes.

The club’s tour guide Nick said, “This school is a phenomenal school to go to; everyone is nice and friendly.”

“It is okay to come and not know anyone because you will meet so many people and make tons of friends,” he said. “At this school, students tend to balance their social and academic lives very well.”
