Good morning Barons, here are your morning announcements for Wednesday, February 27th:

 

Spring Sports have begun….  Boys Tennis won their first match of the season yesterday.  Varsity beat Yorba Linda 17 to 1, John Lieu, Eric Nguyen won all three of their matches. Freshman Eric won all 3 sets without losing a single game!!  Darrin Nguyen/Parker Braverman, Kyle Ho/Nico Caman, Johnny Luu/Brandon Nguyen also won all of their matches.  JV also won 11 to 7.  Go Barons 🙂

 

Boys Volleyball won their season opener at home against Villa Park 25-15, 25-7, 25-19. The Barons were led to victory with strong play by seniors Alvin Truong, Andrew Wise, and Scott Cronick. Congratulations Barons!

 

Congratulations to the FVHS Pep Squad for their amazing performances at their competition this past weekend.  Varsity Cheer took 3rd place in their division while JV Cheer took 1st place.  Both teams earned a spot to compete in the upcoming “Best of the West” competition.  Congratulations also to our Song competition team for their awesome performance at the West Coast Championships.

 

Attention Students, The CAHSEE test dates this year are March 12th and March 13th.   Every sophomore on campus will participate in CAHSEE testing process along with a few junior and senior students.  Test locations will be announced as we get closer to the actual test days.   Our goal is to have 100% attendance both days so please mark your calendar to be on campus by 7:45 AM for test registration.  Students must provide a picture ID to verify identification before entering the testing areas, please come prepared.

 

Seniors, if you want to attend Golden West Preview Day on March 7th sign up in the Career Center starting today Wednesday. Spots are limited to the first 150 students that sign up.

 

It’s here!  March Madness 3 on 3 is back and we need YOU and your basketball skills. Sign your team up with 3 members and up to 2 subs for $5/person. A table will be out this week outside activities.

We have so many students Caught Being Good, it’s impossible to list all of you!  Here are several:  Brandon Son found a purse and textbooks, Muaz Ilyas and Kevin Paulino turned in binders.  Riley Tovar, Tina Hong, Tiffany Phan, Jennifer Hoang and Elizabeth Byrnes found phones or ipods.  Andy Kim and Basheer Abdin brought in ID cards found on campus.  Justin Mach, Kenny Tran, William Gilbert, Eric Huynh and Grace Dinh all found money lost by others.  Congratulations!  You were CAUGHT…BEING GOOD!  Thank you to all of you who have done a good deed, but weren’t named.  You make FVHS a great school

 

Schedules will no longer be accepted when leaving campus at lunch.  If your last class ends before lunch you should have a sticker on your ID.  Please come to supervision if you still need the sticker.

Hey freshmen, sophomore, and juniors, are you looking for a job?  Are you willing to work during lunch time daily?  The cafeteria will be interviewing students on Monday morning before 1st period. Please ask for the manager.

 

Hurley Loud Crowd T-shirts are on sale today in front of the Activities Office.  Get yours for $10.00

 

Come support your dance team this Sunday, Feb. 24th, at the USA regional competition here in our gym!! The competition is from 9am to 5pm.  Our jazz, lyrical and hip hop teams will be competing along with teams from 15 other high schools.  Soloist start at 9:00am and groups compete from 10 am to 3:30.  Hope to see you all there!

 

Come and support your FVHS pep squad this weekend at their competitions!  The Song team is competing on Saturday at 10:30am at The Gibson Amphitheater in Universal City. Adults are $15, and parking is between $10-$20. The Cheer teams are competing at “The King of the Bleachers” on Sunday at the CSULB Pyramid.  JV performs at 10:30am, and Varsity performs at 11am. See Mrs. White or Mrs. Wright for more info.

February is Career Technical Education Month!  CTE Month is a nationwide awareness and celebration highlighting the positive opportunities for career exploration and career skills development that career technical education offers for all students and our communities.  Imagine a world without nurses, computer technicians, construction managers, preschool teachers, police officers, chefs, or fire fighters.  While in high school you have the opportunity to take CTE courses.  We have several on FVHS’s campus and many other classes are offered in the afternoon and evening throughout our five partnering school districts.  If you are interested in finding out more about CTE classes, contact Ms Sanders in the Career Center.

Good morning Barons, here are your morning announcements for Tuesday, February 19th:

 

Congratulations to Girls Basketball, your Lady Barons upset the #8 seed Burroughs Indians 61 to 57 on Saturday in Burbank.  It was a great team effort.  The second round is tomorrow night at FVHS at 7:00pm against the #9 seed Westminster Lions.  Come on Loud Crowd… support your school and cheer on the Barons!  Hey Barons do you have any detentions, come to the game and get two (2) detentions cleared, see you there!

 

Our Varsity wrestlers placed 6th in the CIF Eastern Division Championships. Five of our wrestlers placed in the top of their weight classes: Josh Madrid, Nathan Bazan, and Bryant Vasquez placed 4th. Bryant won 7 matches in a row after a first round loss to get back into the placing rounds. Sophomore Drew Morgan took 3rd place, the highest for any sophomore in over 15 years. Senior Steel Escobedo won his division for the second year in a row! He dominated his opponent earning a technical fall in the finals. All five travel this Friday to the Southern Section Masters meet in Temecula Valley with a chance to qualify for the State finals. Congratulations guys on a great tournament!

 

Congratulations to the men’s and women’s track teams on their excellent showing at the California Indoor State Championships. The women were led by Lora Bender who finished 3rd in the state in the triple jump, Alyssa Tao who was 4th in the 55 meters, Amber Bragdon finished 4th in the 2 mile, Heather Cottle was 11th in the 550 meters, and the 4×800 team of Amanda Stark, Marianna Chavez, Aini Morales and Amber Bragdon finished 2nd overall.  The men were led by Josh Cerda who finished 3rd in the state in the 550 meters, Ty Mason finished 10th in the pole vault, and the 4×800 team composed of Max Chern, Sam Arciniaga, Hunter Gulino and Thomas Duckson was 7th.

 

FVHS Surf Team is competing this spring in the CCSA competition.  At the first competition of the series Kyle Knoke received two 1st place finishes in his heats, Nathan Young received one 1st place finish and John Hoyt received two 2nd place finishes.  Way to start off the series Barons!

 

Congratulations to our Baron thespians for their participation in the Chapman University Shakespeare Festival this past Friday and Saturday.  Ally Fiallo won the top prize for her costume design of Shakespeare’s play The Tempest.

 

The dance team dominated the Street dance competition this past Saturday!!  The small and large hip hop groups both placed 1st against some very tough competition. The Coed team placed 2nd and JV placed 3. Allan Nguyen and Brian Doan competed in a male hip hop duet category and placed 2nd.  Amazing job by all!!

FV’s Academic Decathlon cleaned up at last night’s award ceremony.  In addition to the team taking 1st place in the Super Quiz, and ranking 2nd place overall in our division, we took home 27 individual awards.  Peter “The Beast” Bui placed 1st in 6 subjects, placed 2nd in another subject, and earned a scholarship for placing 7th overall.  Adrien “The Chosen One” Ha placed in 6 out of 10 subjects. Sharon Tran, Millie Koong, Nik Stiltz, Jayne Yokoyama, and Trang Le also placed in multiple subjects!  Miss Fah and Miss Reed are both insanely proud of all of you!

Barons and all FV Clubs! Come to the first CIF Boys Basketball game this Friday night at 7:00 in the gym as our boys take on Inglewood!  Clubs that bring the most members to the game will win a cash prize.  Hey Barons do you have a SATURDAY SCHOOL!  Come to the game and get one Saturday School cleared, see you there!

Any junior who is interested in attending the Concordia University Career Forum can sign up in the Career Center. Students will hear keynote speaker Road Nation plus Hurley, Roxy and other companies inform students on how to choose a career. Space is limited to 50 junior students.”

Congratulations to Gabriel Kemp, Rotary Student of the Month!

 

Another victory for the dance team at this past weekends’ competition!!  The lyrical dance team and the large hip hop team both received 1st place!! The officers and jazz team placed 3rd.  This was a USA regional competition and so now all 4 of these teams have qualified to compete at the championship level in the USA National Competition in March!!  Great job girls!!!

 

Saturday our Percussion and Color Guard performed in their first tournament of the Season.

Our Percussion place 2nd out of 22 schools and our Color Guard placed 3rd out of 29 schools

Congratulation to both teams scoring so high so early in their season.

 

Good Luck to all our Winter Sport teams in CIF…. Friday, Boys Soccer travels to Santa Barbara and Friday Night our Sunset League Champion Boys Basketball Team has their first CIF game vs. Inglewood.  This is a home game and ticket prices are $5.00 for students.  Come on Loud Crowd, you’ve been awesome this year, let’s keep it up and cheer our Barons on to Victory!  Saturday night our Lady Barons Basketball team travels to Burbank High school for their CIF game.  Go Barons!

Congratulations to our Boys Varsity Sunset League Champion Basketball team!  The Barons will begin CIF play next week!  Go Barons!

 

The Lady Barons Basketball teams got a victory on all three levels Wednesday night against Marina. Varsity and JV finished 4th in the Sunset League and the Frosh/Soph girls finished 1st in league.

 

Congratulations to the FVHS Girls Varsity soccer team for finishing the Sunset League with a convincing 2-0 victory over Marina High School. The Lady Barons were in control of the game from the very beginning dominating ball possession and getting several shots on the Marina goal.
(SR) Madison Gomez opened the scoring with the first goal of the match. She ends an impressive 4 year varsity career by leading the team in scoring with 10 goals.  A second goal was added in the first half by (SO) Kasey Reeve on an assist by (SR) Dakota Griggs. Griggs leads the team with 6 assists. The Barons continued their dominance in the second half and preserved the shutout win led by (JR) defender – Sutton Edwards and goalkeepers (SO) Alison Marlow and (FR) Kailyn Whitcomb. Great job Barons!

 

Hey Barons, don’t forget the Annual Alumni Baseball Game this Sunday February 10th on the Varsity Baseball field.  Teachers, bring your families out for a great day at the ball park.  Enjoy watching and chatting with some of the great Fountain Valley Baseball players that have gone on to play professionally or at the college level. The Home Run Derby will begin at 11:00am and the Alumni Game will follow at around 12:30.  Hope to see there.

Barons – Cupid is in the air at FVHS and our Vocal Music program is ready to start delivering those singing grams to all of those friends you can’t live without!     Grams consist of a beautiful rose and a personalized and hand-delivered gram to your special someone on Valentine’s Day!   Our Concert Choir will be performing a medley of “love songs” that will make you smile, blush…and maybe even shed a tear.  Grams are on sale this week and will be available every day at lunch outside of the Choir Room.    Grams are $3 each and sales MUST end on Friday, February 8th.  There are a limited amount of grams being sold this year….so don’t procrastinate.   After all….it’s for love!

 

Any senior interested in attending OCC or GWC should plan on attending Community College Night. You will receive information regarding the SOAR Placement Test, Certificate Programs and Transferring to the UC or Cal St systems. Come tonight, Wed. Feb. 6th at 6:30pm in the St. Cafeteria. Hey Barons, it’s time for the 4th annual District Surf City Film festival. Get your application from the Activities office and turn it back in to the Activities Office by February 27th deadline. The big show happens March 18th in District Historic Auditorium. This Film Festival is open to all students.

 

Calling all teachers, staff and students… The District Wide TALENT SHOW is coming up.  This is your time to show off your special talent AND there are cash prizes. Applications are in the activities office and they are due Feb. 25th. The auditions happen March 10th.

HEY, HEY, HEY Barons! Next Monday, Senior Commission is holding a fundraiser at SKY HIGH from 5- 10 pm. Come and have the time of your life in a funhouse of trampolines. It’ll be fantastic. Bring your friends, family, a flier, and a signed liability waiver if you’re under 18. Waivers are available in the activities office. See you there!

 

Sea Leaf needs you to donate any old t-shirts, cloth, bed sheets, or quilts.  By doing this, you will be saving hundreds of animals.  Boxes are in your English class so ask your teachers.  Make sure that donated items don’t have any holes or tears.  The winning classroom will get a GIANT… STUFFED…DUCK!  Better hurry and grab those teletubbies t-shirts you haven’t worn in a while.  The deadline is February 15th, so bring in your stuff soon.

 

Sea Leaf is hosting a t-shirt drive, so donate any used or unused t-shirts, bed sheets, linen, or other fabricated goods to your English class!  All items will be donated to the Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center to provide bedding for injured animals.  The winning English class will get their very own giant stuffed duck to live in their classroom!  Please make sure there are no tears or holes in the items donated.  The deadline is February 15th.  Those animals need your help!

 

Good morning Barons, here are your morning announcements for Monday, February 4th:

FV Wrestlers dominated league finals this past weekend setting a new school record with 11 varsity wrestlers in the finals and 6 Sunset League Champions! They won the team and Individual league titles for the second year in a row! Over 30 JV and freshmen wrestlers placed in the top 3 of their weight classes.  12 Varsity wrestlers qualified for CIF finals at Oak Hills HS in 2 weeks. Place winners were: 3rd place Quentin Gomez, 2nd place winners Vincent Tran, David Galdamez, Blake Vasquez, Lennon Gomez, and Stone Escobedo. Individual Sunset League Champions were Daniel Galdamez, Drew Morgan, Steele Escobedo, Nathan Bazan, Josh Madrid, and Bryant Vasquez!

 

Hey Barons!  This week Boys Basketball is Tuesday & Thursday.  Come out tomorrow night at 7:00pm as your Sunset League Champion Barons take on the Edison chargers!  Remember, wear blue!  This is our house!

 

Hey Barons, need to clear a detention…. You can get 2 detentions cleared by coming out to the Boys Soccer game this Wednesday at 3:00pm.  Come support your Barons as they take on Edison in their last league game of the season.

 

Now that the Super Bowl is over and football season has ended, it’s Baseball Season!  Baron Staff and students, join the Fountain Valley Baseball Program for their annual Alumni Game this Sunday February 10th on the Varsity Baseball field.  Teachers, bring your families out for a great day at the ball park.  Enjoy watching and chatting with some of the great Fountain Valley Baseball players that have gone on to play professionally or at the college level. The Home Run Derby will begin at 11 in the morning and the Alumni Game will follow at around 12:30 in the afternoon.  Hope to see there.

Barons- Are you eligible for free or reduced lunch?  Did you know you can also receive breakfast?  The cafeteria serves breakfast daily from 6:45 to 7:55 am daily.  Also you can receive your lunch at any cart, main serving line and at the snack bar windows during lunch.  Come and see what were cooking up!

 

SENIORS!  Do you need community service hours for your government class? Are you in need of clearing up a few detentions?  Come to Peer Court tomorrow @ 2:45 in the Choir Room.  Line up outside, it’s on a first come first serve basis.  See your teachers or supervision for details.

 

Barons – Cupid is in the air at FVHS and our Vocal Music program is ready to start delivering those singing grams to all of those friends you can’t live without!     Grams consist of a beautiful rose and a personalized and hand-delivered gram to your special someone on Valentine’s Day!   Our Concert Choir will be performing a medley of “love songs” that will make you smile, blush…and maybe even shed a tear.  Grams go on sale this week and will be available every day at lunch outside of the Choir Room.    Grams are $3 each and sales MUST end on Friday, February 8th.  There are a limited amount of grams being sold this year….so don’t procrastinate.   After all….it’s for love!

We have amazing students on our campus.  Some of them may have helped YOU by turning in something you lost.  Here are a few students who were CAUGHT BEING GOOD!  Jeanne Mai and Garrett Stiffler-Greasby turned in a found purse.  Noor Herzallah found a wallet.  Nicholas Diaz brought in a wallet and video game.  Christopher Cicinelli found a phone and Kristy Dang is a super hero for turning in a large sum of cash.  Make sure to congratulate them!

 

Please come and support another exciting season of Baron Boys Volleyball tonight at Chipotle between 5 and 8pm.  The restaurant is on Beach Blvd, 1 block south of the 405 freeway.  50% of all purchases will be donated to your Baron Boys Volleyball team, so please come have a great tasting dinner and meet some of our volleyball players and parents.  You will need to bring a flyer to the restaurant that you can get in the Activities Office or download it from the Baron Boys Volleyball website, easily accessible from the Athletics area of FVHS.com .  We look forward to seeing you tonight at Chipotle and at our games this season.  GO BARONS!
