For the second time in Sunset League, the Barons lost to Edison on February 5th in a home game.

The last time the Barons faced Edison was in their home court. Edison learned from that match – which FV won – and learned to not to let the game spin out of control in the 4th quarter, which helped them deliver a blow to Fountain Valley, ending the game 49-57.

Coming out of the gates for the Barons was rough at first. Josh Armstrong made the first shot of the night at 7:50, but the shot was met with a three-pointer by Edison. Fountain Valley pursued their charging-the-basket plays, but ultimately the shots did not convert, and Fountain Valley was down in the end of the first quarter, 8-10.

It was a big turnaround for the Barons in the second quarter. Josh Armstrong dished a pass to Jackson Gatlin who converted it to an alley-oop, and picked up the free throw for a three-point play at 7:49, tieing up the game 10-10. Mark Girgis made his first and only shot in the second quarter.

It was easy for Fountain Valley to zip by Edison with clean layups and under-the-basket action. By the end of the second quarter, the Barons were up 26-21.

Our boys were still able to keep the lead, and could afford to bring in bench players. Richard Le recorded a three-point basket at 0:28 in the third quarter, passing Edison’s lead by only one point. It was then in the fourth quarter that Edison blew out Fountain Valley by scoring 21 points over the Barons’ 9 points. The Edison lead was further extending by intentional fouling play at the end, and the Barons hustled for a three-pointer that never came. The Edison crowd ran out onto the court, just as Fountain Valley had done when we won against Edison in their home turf. The game ended with a 49-57.

The last basketball game of the season is on Thursday, February 7th against Marina, which is also the Boys’ Basketball Senior Night.
