On Thursday, February 7, Fountain Valley Varsity Girls Soccer won its last home game, 2-0 against Marina.

Though the Varsity Barons team ended their league on the a winning note, it was not enough to earn a championship title for FVHS.

In the first five minutes of the first half, the Barons immediately tested the defensive line of Marina. The strength and speed of the Barons offense could not be compared to the slow defense of Marina.

The girls got their first goal of the season from their captain, Madison Gomez (‘13), with an assist from Kasey Reeve (’15).

The half ended with another goal made by the Barons. Dakota Griggs (’13) assisted the second goal made by a run from forward, Kasey Reeve (’15). The second half began on a rough start with some shots taken on goalkeepers Alison Marlow (‘15). Overall, Alison Marlow made two saves in the entire game.

At the end of the second half, junior Brittney Stevens had to be carried off the field. She had suffered a previous ankle injury, and hoped to recover over preseason to continue playing next year.

Brittney said, “I have not been playing because of my ankle injury, and was out for two weeks. After I played a little on the field, and made a bad move, it hurt.”

The final score was 2-0 with the Lady Barons taking the lead and a win against their tough opponents. Girls soccer couldn’t have made a better end to the season, and are hoping their future games for years to come, have the same results.
