Boys soccer defeated in first round of CIFs

The Barons ended their season in the first round of CIF against Santa Barbara. A 0-1 loss to Santa Barbara sent the Barons back to Fountain Valley rethinking the match, and reflecting on one of their best seasons in years.

The Barons signed an early death sentence against Santa Barbara last Thursday. Within the first minutes of the game, the opponents were bouncing around the box; after a couple of poor clearances on the Barons part, a player from Santa Barbara was able to hammer home a shot from the 6-yard box sending them ahead very early on. The Barons now had a to play literally the entire game fighting back a deficit.

In the second half the Barons stayed desperate. The Barons were only able to muster up a few more offensive opportunities as the game went on, and as was the story of the game, could not find a way to get any more shots to test the goalie.

The Barons walked off the field for the last time of the season and dropped out of CIF in the first round. Just like last year, the boys just could not find a way to get past the first round, to make it closer to winning that championship.

Captain Ryan Brown (’13) said, “We made it farther than I expected, and to even make it into the CIFs is something to be proud of. The boys should hold their heads high because of all that we accomplished together, and hopefully our boys can win a title next year.”
