Volleyball sets up the season with a victory against Villa Park

Scott Cronick (’13) spikes the ball.

In the first game of the season, Boys Varsity Volleyball crushed the Villa Park Spartans, 3-0.

The match started with some awkwardness from both sides as each team tried to get into their rhythm. Within the first five minutes, it was clear the Barons had found theirs, while Villa Park continued to falter.

In the second game, Fountain Valley lobbed the ball easily into Villa Park’s territory, while Villa Park’s defense struggled to block the Barons’ spikes.

And though Villa Park began to come back in the third and final match with a volley of points, the Barons eventually triumphed.

The majority of the points were earned by Scott Cronick (’13), Alvin Truong (’13) and Patric Areyan (’13). The boys were able to win their three matches with an advantage of three points of more.

“I think it went pretty well,”  said Truong. “At first it was a little slow but I think we were able to put everything back together because we have good chemistry.”

The team’s ability to work together, Truong said, would take them further this season.

“I’m pretty excited for the season,” he said. “I think we’re gonna go to CIF this year.”
