Attention Seniors, the Senior Panorama has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 10th.

 

Congratulations to Boys Tennis!!  Varsity beat Newport Harbor 15 to 3, this was an awesome win for the Barons.  Kyle Ho/Nico Caman,   Johnny LUU/Brandon Nguyen won all their doubles matches!!  John Lieu won all three of his singles matches and John was selected as this week’s OCVARSITY.COM Athlete of the Week!  FV Tennis is making some serious noise…..  Go Barons…..

 

Great job to Boys Volleyball, the Barons took 5th place out of 48 teams at the Las Vegas Easter Invitational as all the boys performed well.  The barons were led by senior Andrew Wise who was awarded all tournament team.

Good luck to the dance team at this weekends’ USA National competition!!  The jazz, lyrical, officers, small and large hip hop teams have all placed high enough to compete at the championship level and will have a chance to place in the finals.  The competition is at Segerstrom Hall in Costa Mesa all day Friday with finals and awards on Saturday. If you would like to attend and support the team ask any dance member or email Mrs. Allen for more information.  Good luck ladies!!!

 

Attention all students: The deadline to turn in your Coronet’s application is this Friday!!! Students who would like to be nominated for a Coronet award are highly encouraged to download and type their application using the link located on the front page of FVHS.com. You can also pick up an application from the Department Coordinator in the department for which you wish to be nominated. If you don’t know who the Department Coordinator is, ask any teacher in that department.  Applications are also available in the Activities Office.  All applications must be submitted to Department Coordinators.The Coronets are considered our School’s highest honor, so get your applications in today!!!

Good morning Barons, here are your morning announcements for Monday, March 25th:  

Our Instrumental Music Department invaded Southern California again in the past three days.

Starting on Friday in Irvine, our Dynamic String Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra and Band Wind Ensemble all received the TOP Superior Ratings in Concert Festivals.  Saturday and Sunday in San Diego, our high flying Color Guard place in the TOP 5 in both prelims and finals against 18 strong guards from California, Texas and Arizona.  Also on Saturday and Sunday in San Bernardino, our Percussion Ensemble derailed many schools placing in the TOP 3 against 8 World division schools and speeding over 32 other schools.  FV Music is Strong and still “On Fire” this Winter Season.  You can also join our monster groups having too much fun!  Just Do It!!

 

Over the weekend the track distance team ran at the APU Meet of Champions. The Barons had an amazing day highlighted by Amber Bragdon who ran 10:51 in the two mile which is the 6th fastest time in school history. Amanda Stark was not far behind running 11:17 which is the 10th fastest time in school history. On the men’s side Hunter Gulino ran 9:27 for two miles which is 4th fastest all time at FV. Great job!

 

Varsity baseball defeated Los Al 5-3 in a big sunset league game.  Monty Plattner was outstanding again.  He threw a complete game by giving up one earned run.  Jordan Lucio got the offense started with a solo home run in the 4th, JT Cobb had two hits and Dillon Persinger added a two run double to put the Barons up 4-2.  JT Navarro laid down a crucial squeeze bunt in the bottom of the 6th to give the Barons a 5-3 lead. The Barons are currently ranked 3rd in the county and will host Edison this Tuesday at 3:15.

Good morning Barons, here are your morning announcements for Friday, March 22nd:  

Varsity Baseball team beat Newport Harbor 6-3. Hunter Margain gave up one run in 5 innings.  Justin Cobb earned his 3rd save of the season by getting the final 4 outs. John Shattles led the offense with 2 hits and 3 RBI’s. His two run home run in the bottom of the 6th put the game away. The Barons are 8-1 overall and ranked 3rd in the county.  They are tied for first place in the sunset league. The Barons will host Los Al in a huge sunset league matchup today at 3:15. Hope to see you there!

 

Congratulations Boys Tennis, Varsity beat HB 18-0. The Barons didn’t lose one set.  JV won 15 to 3.  Keep up the good work Barons!

 

Congratulations to the FV Track Team, both Girls & Boys Track Swept Huntington Beach on all levels yesterday.  The FV Girls Varsity won 100 to 30, JV’s 80 to 45 and F/S 96 to 29.  The Boys Varsity won 96 to 35, JV’s 81 to 48 and the Boys F/S beat Huntington 114 to 12.  Great job Barons!

 

Congratulations to the Boys Golf team for starting out Sunset league play with a victory over Huntington Beach. The boys shot a season best 3 over par to win by 14. Andre Vu, Jordan Meas, Jeffrey Gathman, Chris Feltman, Ryan Cross, and Joey Huynh all played lights out. Way to go Barons!

 

Congratulations to Aseel, Adil, and Jason Austin for winning at the Film Festival last Monday night. The trio produced a stop motion animation which received one of the top eight honors by a 12 judge panel. They received the most entertaining film.  Also having their animations shown were Britney Le and Avalon Johnson.  Congratulations to all.

Congratulations to Boys Tennis, Varsity beat San Clemente 11 to 7, John Lieu was the star player of the day.  He won all of his matches 6-2, 6-0, 6-0.  The JV team won 11 to 7 and the Frosh/Soph team beat JSerra 13 to 5.  Next up, Los Alamitos!  Go Barons!

 

The Swim Team’s league opener against Huntington Beach ended with a 5-team victory.  All levels except Open boys won their division.  Our swimmers are preparing for their next challenge, one of the fastest meets outside of C.I.F., the Klaus Barth Invite.  The preliminary heats are Tuesday and Wednesday at Wilson, with finals being held at Long Beach City College.

 

Congratulations to the Varsity Boys Golf team for their victory over Trabuco Hills High School. Jordan Meas and Andre Vu lead the way to victory. The boys are now 6 and 1. Way to go Barons

It’s International Week Barons!  Here are the salad DRESSing days for International Week, tomorrow, wear your Hawaiian attire for Thousand Island day come out to the bowl and watch hula dancers.  For Wednesday, wear Italian or Greek attire for Italian/Ceasar day and participate in a relay and toilet paper toga.  Yee-haw Barons! Thursday is Ranch Dressing so come out in your western gear and pie people in the face.  We will finish it off Friday night with the Culture Fair from 5:00pm to 9:00pm.  Clubs will be selling ethnic foods and hosting games, along with great performances in the bowl!  See you there Barons!

 

The Varsity Baseball team opened league play on Friday with a 5-0 win against Huntington Beach. Monty Plattner threw six shut-out innings en route to his 4th win of the season. Dillon Persinger led the offense with aggressive base running that sparked a 4 run inning.  Jacob Peralta executed a double squeeze that put the game out of reach.  The Barons lost in the Championship game of the Loara Tournament on Satureday.  Daniel Patzlaff received Tournament honors by receiving a $250 scholarship.  The Barons host Newport Harbor on Wednesday and Los Al on Friday. Both home games start at 3:15pm.

 

A huge congratulations to the dance team for their achievements at the CADTD State competition this weekend. They competed against the most talented, high ranking teams in the state.  The Jazz and Lyrical teams both placed 2nd and the Officers and Small Hip Hop teams placed 4th. The Coed Hip Hop team placed 5th and the Large Hip Hop team placed 1st!!  The teams’ final competition is the USA National Competition at Segerstrom Hall in Costa Mesa, March 29 and 30th. Hope to see you there!!

 

Congratulations to the FVHS Song Team, who took FIRST place at the Best of the West competition.  JV Cheer had an amazing performance as well. Our Pep Squad is truly the BEST of the West. Congratulations on a great competition season. If YOU would like to try out for this award-winning team, look for flyers coming to your classrooms soon. Tryouts will be held the last week of April, with a mandatory information meeting on Tuesday, April 16th in the Cafeteria.

 

Our FV Instrumental Music Department is again on fire… Friday our all new Advanced 16 member Chamber Orchestra received the highest ratings of the day in a demanding Music Festival

Congratulations to this group for receiving the highest ratings from every judge.  Our Advanced Wind Ensemble concert band and our String Orchestra also received High Ratings.  Both our Percussion and Color Guard placed in the top four of the day at their competitions.  Congratulations to our Performing Arts at FVHS…   “A Leader in Quality Music Education”

 

The Boy’s Track team completed a successful weekend competing at the Redondo Nike Invitational.  The Barons were led by Noah Rivard who ran 11.28 in the 100 meters, Nick Malone ran 11.3, Patrick Huynh ran 11.4.  Josh Cerda continued his strong season running 51 seconds in the 400 and split 49 seconds on his 4 by 400 relay leg.  Hunter Guilino led the distance team in the 3200 running 9:40, and Max Chern improved in the mile dipping into the 4:20’s.  On Frosh/Soph the boys tied their season best time of 45.3 seconds in the 4×100 relay.  The team was composed of Sal Ochoa, Dakarai Barnett, Philip Bui, and Nick Malone.  Dakarai also won the long jump at Redondo jumping 19 feet 9 inches.  The throwers were led by Wes Umphenour who has made dramatic improvements in the shot put and discus.  Currently, the boys track team is ranked 5th in Orange County.
The Girl’s Team continued their amazing season by dominating the field in the distance events.  Amber Bragdon ran 11:22 in the 3200 followed closely by teammates Amanda Stark at 11:28, Stephanie Fedele at 11:46, Valerie Stark at 11:48, and Summer Ordaz at 12:01.  Sprinter Alyssa Tao, one of the most improved sprinters in Orange County, ran 12.4 seconds in the 100 meters.  The 4×100 relay team ran 49 seconds for the third week in a row ranking them top ten in the state.  The team was composed of Lindsay Chiang, Crystal Eckman, Riley Glasgow, and Alyssa Tao.  Hurdler Lora Bender ran a season best time of 16.7 seconds in the 100 hurdles.  Erika Davis cleared 10 feet in the pole vault, and Annalise Doerr finished second overall in the frosh/soph 400 meters running 61 seconds.  The girls team is ranked 7th in Orange County.

 

The Surf Team competed at 9th Street this weekend in the CCSA Series.   Eric Tello came in 3rd in his first heat and pounded out a 1st place finish in his second heat.  Richie Lopez also earned a 3rd place finish in his first heat.  And Trevor Lonergan surfed beautifully in his first heat for a 1st place finish.  Congratulations to all!

 

Current Link Crew leaders, there is a meeting on Tuesday 3/19/13 at lunch in room 246. Please plan to attend.

 

Congratulations to FVHS Theatre for their performances at the Fullerton College Theatre Festival.  In competing against schools from around the state, the Baron Improv team made it to the final round and Ally Fiallo won second place for her costume design.

Bassil Dakel and Saleem Abdelmuti turned in sets of keys.  Jawad Nafoosi and Raed Shehadah turned in a phone they found.  Andres Jamaica and Kenny Pham helped Ms. Marion at lunch. Good morning Barons, here are your morning announcements for Friday, March 15th:  

 

Congratulations to the Varsity Girls Swim team on their victory over Northwood.  Makenna DuBois and Jordan Stead held the line in the 100 Backstroke, while Sarah Yao, Katelyn Farrow, and Lauren Wong went 1-2-3 in the 100 Breaststroke.  The 1st place finish in the 400 free relay lead by Jenn Schulman clinched the victory.  Our Boys Team held their own against a Northwood team with several top-ranked national level swimmers.  Cory Nguyen, Tyler Bernardin, Dalton Kenefick, and Sam Knott are pushing their teammates to perform and they are responding well.

 

Congratulations to the Varsity Boys Golf team for their victory over Esperanza. Jordan Meas shot a 4 under 32 and Andre Vu shot a 3 under 33 to help lead the team. The boys are now 5 and 1 heading into league play next week.  The JV boys golf team for their victory over Esperanza. The boys were lead by freshman Jesse Mooney and junior Eric Cho. Way to go Barons!

 

Congratulations to the J.V. Baseball team for their 7 to 1 victory over Segerstrom on Monday.  Scotty Schultz had 4 hits and struck out nine batters.  On Tuesday, the J.V. team defeated Ocean View 7 to nothing.  Justin Cobb had three doubles and drove in, three runs. Tomorrow night the Varsity Boys Baseball team will play in the Loara Championships at 7:00pm against Canyon High School.

 

Boys Tennis continues their dominance with a victory over 9th ranked Irvine 12 to 6.  The JV’s won 12 to 4.  Go Barons!

Congratulations to Boys Tennis, all three levels beat La Quinta on Monday!

 

Your Baron JV Boys Volleyball team participated in the Tesoro JV Championships tournament this past weekend with great results.  Out of a field of 15 teams, we placed 3rd overall in the tournament, with wins against many high caliber teams.  Our boys played a great tournament and our 3rd place finish against top teams is certainly something to be proud of.  In addition to this weekend’s tournament, we played our first away match against Ocean View High School on Monday afternoon.  Our Varsity, JV and F/S teams won all their matches in straight sets against Ocean View.  Your Varsity team is currently 3-0 this season as we head into the OC Championships this weekend at Edison High School.  Go Barons!

Congratulations to Naomi DeVita for winning the Grad Night 2012 Logo Contest. She was awarded a free Grad Night ticket for her top design.  Way to go, Naomi!

 

Congratulations to the FV wrestling Team! They broke a team record by placing 9 individual Grade State Medalists! The tournament was filled with a lot of the best wrestlers in the State. Those who placed are Freshmen, Blake Vasquez, 5th place,  Zack Summers , 6th place; Sophomores, Mahdie Diab who placed 7th, Alex Damschen, Amador Rodriguez, both finished 5th, Stone Escobedo, 4th, Andrew Morgan, 3rd; Juniors, Lucas Gomez, 4th place and Bryant Vasquez  placing 2nd only losing to the State Champion!  Congratulations Wrestlers!

 

The Varsity Baseball team is off to a 6-0 record. They play in the championship game of the Loara tournament. Game is tentatively set for Saturday, March 16th at 700pm at Glover Stadium. Their league opener is this Friday at Huntington Beach. The pitching has been a big part of the success of the Barons thus far. The pitching staff is led by Senior Monty Plattner and Sophomore Hunter Margain.  Also contributing are Justin Cobb and Nick Yang. The offense is led by Seniors Jordan Lucio and Jacob Peralta. Daniel Patzlaff and Justin Brand are off to great starts.

 

Congratulations to The Dance Team for their performances at the West Coast Elite State Competition this past Saturday.  The Coed Hip Hop Team placed 1st, The Jazz and JV Hip Hop Team both placed 2nd, the Small Hip Hop got 3rd and the Varsity Team 4th.  An overall amazing job by all dancers!!

Good morning Barons, here are your morning announcements for Friday, March 8th:  

The men’s and women’s track teams started the season in strong fashion at the Saddle Up Invitational earlier in the week.  On the women’s side, the 4×100 relay finished second overall running a strong time of 49.66 seconds.  Athletes on the team were Lindsay Chiang, Crystal Eckman, Riley Glasgow, and Alyssa Tao.  Amber Bragdon finished third in the mile running 5:12.  Lora Bender finished fourth in the 300 hurdles running 49.6 seconds. Amanda Stark was fourth in the 2 mile running 11:39.  Heather Cattle dominated the Frosh/Soph division in the 400 meters running 60.3 seconds, and Marianna Chavez won the Frosh/Soph mile in a time of 5:29.

 

On the men’s side, Sam Arciniaga finished fifth in the 800 running 2:03, Muau ILYAS finished fifth in the 300 hurdles in a time of 41.03 seconds.  Hunter Gulino was fourth in the 2 mile running 10:03. Ramsey Hussain was fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 40 feet 3 inches.  Ty Mason and Jason McKinnon dominated the pole vault finishing first and second overall jumping 13 feet 6 inches. In the frosh/soph division, top newcomer Nick Malone ran one of the fastest times in the state in the 100 meters for a freshman running 11.32 seconds.  Great job track!

Our Boys Varsity Volleyball teams are off to a great start this season.  The JV team took first place in the Foothill Tournament, and are currently 7-2 this season.  Last Tuesday, both our JV and Varsity teams won at home against Sage Hill HS.  Both, Varsity and Frosh/Soph teams are currently undefeated.  Great job Boys Volleyball!

 

Boys Varsity Tennis beat Troy High School 15-3, John Lieu, Winston Ngo and Eric Nguyen won all of their matches.  JV won 10-6.  GO Barons!

Congratulations! Varsity Baseball beat #2 ranked El Toro 5 to 0.  An outstanding pitching performance by Hunter Margain, who threw 5 shutout innings.  Justin Cobb threw 2 scoreless innings to earn his 2nd save of the year.  The offense was led by Daniel Patzlaff, Justin Brand and Jacob Peralta. The Barons play in the semifinals of the Loara Tournament versus Cypress H.S. tomorrow at 3:00pm at Glover Stadium.

 

Boys Tennis continue their win streak by beating Laguna Hill High School.  Varsity won 18-0.

John Lieu, Winston Ngo, and Eric Nguyen won all three of their matches and Freshman Eric won all of his matches without losing a game!!!  Darrin Nguyen/Parker Braverman, Kyle Ho/Nico Caman, Johnny Luu/Brandon Nguyen also won all of their matches.  The JV team also won 16 – 0.
