Volleyball fights for 2-2 in weekend tournament

On Friday, March 15, and Saturday, March 16, the Baron volleyball team won three out of four consecutive matches.

In the first match against Dana Hills, FV worked hard but could not keep up, and ended up losing 0-3.

The second match pitted the Barons against the Newport Harbor Sailors, where they unfortunately lost in a very close game 2-3.

Jake Thibodeau (‘13) said, “The game against Newport went to 5 sets and we ended up losing but it was a well fought match.”

“We will definitely get them in Sunset League,” said Thibodeau.

Not to be put down without a fight, the Barons took on their next two opponents and crushed them quickly 3-0 each time.

Patric Areyan (‘13) said, “I felt pretty strong throughout our games. We went up against some of the toughest teams in OC such as Dana Hills, Newport Harbor, El Toro, and Servite. We barely lost to Newport in 5 games and easily beat El Toro and Servite, 3 games to zero.”

Overall, the team’s hard work and practicing is paying off.

“I feel pretty confident about our team this season and I definitely believe we could be one of the top teams in our league,” said Areyan.

Some of the team’s strongest performers include Scott Cronick, who scored 18 points in the Servite game alone, and Andrew Wise, who fought through the El Toro game with 8 kills, 4 digs, and thirteen points.

Areyan said, “We have an all around solid team with a very powerful front row as well as a defense that gets about every ball up. We have great chemistry and I can’t wait to see how the rest of the season goes.”

FV’s first league game will be this Friday at 5:30 pm in the HBHS gym.
