Softball narrowly beats San Clemente

Fountain Valley High School’s varsity girls softball team showed their skill with a win against San Clemente on Thursday with a close score of 4-3.

The lady Barons attacked their opponents with outstanding pitches as well as hits that had no chance to be caught. The ladies got into their rhythm and started to work together to come away with a win for the first inning by one.

During the second and third inning, they weren’t able to get through the other team, with no home runs made by either team.

The players had confidence and faith in each other and kept up the same rhythm as they had in the first inning, which carried to the fourth inning. In the fourth inning, the lady Barons gained some of their momentum as San Clemente opened the Barons winning streak scoring another homerun by Victoria Brito (’15), making the score 2-0. The momentum carried on in the fifth inning with another homerun by catcher Victoria Ellard (’14), ending the inning 3-0.

However, in the sixth inning, San Clemente climbed all over the barons, scoring three home runs to make the score a tie of 3-3. Making a quick comeback, the Barons ended the seventh inning with a winning hit from Khailey Campos (’13), allowing Jessie Giese (’13) to slide into the home base, ending the score 4-3.

Pitcher Madi Perez (’13) hopes this win continues on in the season. “We just have to keep playing with the same passion for the rest of the season,” she said.

The ladies have their next preseason game on Tuesday, March 26 against Ocean View at home.
