Many have even decided to make their own videos and put them on social networking sites. Fountain Valley High School’s dance team made their own Harlem Shake video and posted it to YouTube on March 11.

“The dance team was split into groups of about five to six to choreograph on our own a unique version of the Harlem Shake before doing a group one. It’s really a contest to see who can come up with the best, funniest, most unique choreography,” said dance team member Lily Mooney (‘15).

Robin Nguyen (‘15), Trang Le (‘14), and their friend from Westminster High School also created their own Harlem Shake video and posted it to Facebook on March 15.

“The overall experience of making the video was absolutely fun. The feeling of exhilaration rushed through me as I tried to be as crazy as I could with my friends for sixteen seconds,” said Le.

The Harlem Shake consists of one person dancing on their own at the beginning of the video, and then other people joining in at a certain point in the song. The dancing includes many random props, such as stuffed animals, hats, etc.

“It’s crazy and fun, and people seem to like that,” said Zara Mann (‘15).

At FVHS, the Harlem Shake has quickly spread from student to student. Everyone is constantly watching or talking about Harlem Shake videos that they have seen online.

“The Harlem Shake, in my opinion, is a great way to show your wild side. It’s a way to have a lot of fun and entertain your friends and family,” said Nguyen.
