Boys tennis beats Corona del Mar, struggles against Los Alamitos

By Rachel Phillips

Boys Varsity tennis crushed Corona Del Mar 18-0, losing no games on March 26th. Every player won all three of their matches.

The boys faced one of their toughest competitors, Los Alamitos High School on the 28th. Unfortunately, they lost in a hard-fought match 8-10, after their star singles player, John Lieu (’14), suffered from severe leg cramps, leaving him immobile for over an hour and forcing him to go to the emergency room.

Doubles player Nico Caman (’14) said, “We faced some unfortunate challenges against Los Al, especially with the loss of our No. 1 player, John Lieu. When John gets back in shape, though, we will definitely beat Los Al the second time around.”

Varsity tennis’s match against Los Alamitos was their first league loss. Matches resumed after spring break, with a CIF tournament soon to follow.

“We would like to win the league this year,” said Caman. “That is our ultimate goal.”
