Track clears Edison and Los Alamitos

Track competed against Edison and Los Alamitos at Edison High School on Thursday, March 28. This meet was especially important, because beating Los Alamitos and Edison would place the Fountain Valley Track and Field team in the running for CIF contention. According to O.C. Varsity, boys track placed 6th, while the girls are placed 7th among the top ten teams in Orange County.

Mens 4×100 Frosh/Soph got 1st with the time of 46.59. While Women’s Varsity for 4×100 got 2nd to Los Al.

“I couldn’t run the Womens 4×100 Meter Frosh/Soph because we got disqualified so I didn’t get to run the relay,” said Tram Dinh (‘15), “I’m pretty sure they said that the baton fell from lanes 1 to 2.”

Womens JV for the 4×100 Relay got 1st place with the time of 52.40, while Men JV came in second to Edison with the time of 47.30.

For the Varsity 4×100 Relay, Fountain Valley won 1st with the time of 43.84 because both Los Al and Edison got disqualified for dropping their baton.

Both Mens and Womens Frosh/Soph won first in their 4×400 Meter Relay.

That goes the same for JV too with both Womens and Men taking first place.

Frosh/Soph runner Noah Carr (‘16) got second behind Los Alamitos with the time of 4:52.49 for the 1600 Meter, he later came in 1st for the 2 mile whole Kenneth Barrios (‘15) and Joseph Martinez (‘15) came in 2nd and 3rd.

Varsity runner Amber Bragdon (‘14) got 1st in the Women’s 1600 Meter, 800 Meter and the 2 mile run.

Mens Varsity runner Hunter Gulino (‘14) got 2nd with the time of 4:24.99 in the 1600 Meter. He was almost penalized because he ran out of bounds and cut an Edison Runner, Jeff Theis.

On the Mens Varsity 2 mile run, Hunter Gulino came in 2nd again to Edison Jeff Theis.

Nathalie Huynh (‘16) ,a Frosh/Soph hurdler, had a strong showing on her hurdles placing top three in the 100 Meter Hurdles, 300 Meter Hurdles, and Long Jump. Another Frosh/Soph hurdler Davina Pham (‘16) placed 1st in both the Womens 300 Hurdles and the Womens High Jump while placing second in the Womens 100 Meter Hurdles.

JV hurdler, Luca Gemeinhhardt (‘14) placed 2nd behind Edison with the time of 18.36 for the Mens 110 Meter hurdles. He then got first in the mens triple long jump.

Varsity hurdler Dustin Huynh (‘14) came in 2nd with the time of 15.73 for the Mens 110 Meter hurdles, while Muaz Ilyas (‘13) came in 3rd with the time of 16.11. Ilyas later comes in 2nd for the Mens 300 Meter hurdles while Huynh got 3rd. In the Long Jump Ilyas came in 2nd to Dakarai Barnett (‘16).For the Triple Jump, Ilyas placed 1st while Ramsey Husain (‘14) got 2nd.

“The races today have been okay, nothing special but I still think we’re going to win with that,” said Dustin Huynh, “I felt terrible about my hurdles though, I should’ve gotten first.”

Frosh/Soph runner Philip Bui (‘15) placed 1st with the time of 52.72 for the 400 Meter Dash and the 300 hurdles.

For Frosh/Soph 100 Meter Dash, Tram Dinh (‘15) and Leslie Garcia (‘16) placed 1st and 3rd respectively.

Frosh/Soph runner Sal Ochoa (‘15) placed 1st with 11.86 for the 100 Meter Dash and got 1st again for the Mens 200 Meter Dash.

JV runner, Brianna Roy (‘13) placed first while Lisa Rastogi (‘16) placed second for the 100 Meter Dash. Roy placed first again for the 200 Meter Dash while Shelby Pepper placed 2nd.

“It’s really intense out here right now and things are honestly really scary for us but I think we could pull it together.” Said Roy.

Mens 100 Meter Dash: JV

JV runner, Josh Deng (‘14) came in 1st beating Edison and Los Al in both the 100 and 200 Meter Dash.

Varsity runner, Alyssa Tao (‘13) came in 1st with the time of 12.4 while Crystal Eckman (‘15) came in 3rd with the time of 12.93 for the 100 Meter Dash. In the 200 Meter Dash, Alyssa Tao placed 2nd with 26.008

Frosh/Soph runner, Diego Rivera (‘15) got 2nd after Los Al and William Hua (‘16) got 3rd for their 300 Meter Run.

“Man, that first lap was so great. Freaking kicking till it hurts, that last hundred was just like hitting a brick wall,” said Diego Rivera, “I could’ve done better. I almost got the right splits, I got 65 the first lap the 66 the next.”

Womens 300 Meter Hurdles: JV

JV hurdler, Sabrina Castaneda (‘14) got 1st over Edison and Los Al with the time of 51.26 for the 300 Meter hurdles. She later came in second for the Womens Long Jump.

Frosh/Soph runners Samantha Hirata (‘15), Tram Dinh (‘15) and Leslie Garcia (‘16) placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the 200 Meter Dash.

The Sunset League Records are Boys Varsity 3-0, JV 2-1, and F/S 3-0. Girls scores are  Varsity 2-1, JV 3-0, and F/S 3-0.

FV Track did very well with boys winning 1st overall and girls winning 2nd overall.
