FVHS Activities has gone live with two new ways for students to get in touch with school: through a web app and an Activities website.

The new app, available for iPhones and Androids, is intended to help students, teachers, and parents navigate the school website, find important information, and contact staff. The app was created by Beverly Pham (‘14) under the direction of the new Activities Director Joshua Lamar.

“I’ve always wondered who created the first Fountain Valley app that could be downloaded from the app store,” said Pham. “After a while, however, I began to realize that it had become very outdated as we changed our bell schedule. While attending ASB camp and talking with other schools about their apps, I found that having an updated app would be a great way to update students quickly and efficiently.”

The website, which goes hand in hand with the application, features important information on campus activities, school-sponsored events, and any other articles.

“My hope for the website is that it will be the go-to site for campus activities and information,” said Lamar. “I want all FVHS students, parents, and staff to be aware of Baron activities, and hopefully they can use the website and the app to achieve that.”

The app features the latest news updates on school events, the bell schedule, access to the parent-student portal and the staff directory, and much more.

“I think it’s helpful because it’s a collection of the most important links in one place,” Pham stated. “My goal is that you don’t have to go hunting through FVHS.com or the directory for what you need.”

The application is a “web app,” which means that the app was made online, and can be downloaded from a website rather than purchased in the app store. It also helps the school avoid paying expensive fees for the app to be available in the app store or to be developed professionally so that Apple would approve it for sale.

“Hopefully, all students will be able to download the app in its web format,” said Pham, “because all you need is an Internet connection in order to download it.”

To download the app, go to tinyurl.com/fvhsapp and follow the instructions on the screen.
