This year, over 100 applicants applied for and were interviewed for positions on FVHS Senate.

Senate applications became available in early September, and were turned in by Sept. 13 to be reviewed by ASB members. The interviews took place from last Tuesday to Friday after school and lasted for about five minutes each in room 410. The Senate applicants will find out whether or not they have made it into Senate on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

Shani Tra (’15), who was a member of Senate last year, decided to reapply for the new school year.

“I rejoined Senate because I really loved helping ASB with school activities like Bell Week and the Glow Show.”

With so many students applying for a limited amount of space, many applicants were nervous about their interviews. However,  the interviews were not as terrifying as they had initially seemed to be. Some students were reassured by other applicants and became less nervous during the interview.

“At first I was kind of nervous as I had already applied for ASB and Homecoming MC and was turned down,” said Brandon Doan (’15). “However, I chatted with other Senate applicants about the interview and their assurances calmed me down.”

Others have already experienced the interview process for Senate, so they they were more comfortable with the interview.

“Last year I was super nervous for my interview, but this year I wasn’t that nervous,” Tra said. “Since I already went through the interview once I felt a bit more confident my second time.”

Senate is a group of students that works alongside ASB, hanging up posters, preparing for dances and games, etc. Senate members work to promote school spirit and encourage students to attend school events.

“I decided to join Senate because I wanted to be more involved in my school. I’ve always been impressed with the effort and work that Senate and ASB has put into student activities,” Doan stated. “I just hope to be able to contribute to making this year better for my peers and myself.”
