Edison High school trumped the Fountain Valley surf team, 49-98, at the River Jetties Nov. 11—losing again, but showing great improvement.

“Edison is a really tough team to beat but I think we [were] doing pretty well against them,” said head Coach David Rorden.

As waves swelled and broke along the sandbars of Huntington Beach, the Barons and the Chargers were deep in competition.

“This time we did better against Edison, getting second place and third place finishes,” said Eric Tello (’15). “Last time we placed fourth and fifth mostly.”

Tello scored second in the third heat, just barely losing first place to the Chargers.

Kaden Bruner (’14) scored high with a backside off the lift in his heat.

Though the surf team lost, they are still looking forward to the season.

“I want to go up against Huntington next week on Thursday and do better than we did previously,” said Coach Rorden. “I want to keep upping our game and building our skills.”

For the surfers, it really isn’t about winning these competitions.

“We just need to try our hardest and if we don’t win it doesn’t matter as long as we try our best,” said Cairo Ziebarth (’14).
