ASB hosted its first ever Winter Festival last Friday, which featured various activities such as swing dancing, raffle drawing, pictures with Santa Claus, and food sold by many clubs.

The raffle drawing, which was a new activity, encouraged many of the festival attendees to earn raffle tickets by donating canned foods in the spirit of the holidays. Prizes for winning the raffle included various items generously donated by the clubs and ASB such as stuffed animals, movies, cute animal calendars, gift baskets, gift cards, and more.

Swing dancing was a popular new hit that was introduced at the festival toward the end of the event.

ASB member Alan Nguyen (’14) said, “[Swing dancing] was extra fun as we grooved the night away.”

Instead of the usual location around the Bowl, ASB decided to hold the festival in a more intimate space between the band, theater, choir, and faculty dining buildings.

Although there many activities and booths going on at once, CSF president Elise Dang (’14) said, “The area was very divided, so only some clubs had the benefit of being near the entertainment.”

With the Winter Festival happening less than a week after coming back from break, many students were unable to clear their schedules for the event. Because of this, attendance was not as high in comparison to previous events such as last year’s Harvest Festival.

Brian Nguyen (’14) said, “The Winter Festival was…not as busy as I expected compared to other events.”

Although not as many people showed up as clubs had hoped, many club members felt that their booths were relatively successful.

Manuel Santiago, president of KIWIN’S, said, “I think my club did very well, considering the fact is was a cold night and there were many other clubs selling, too.”

Despite the cold weather, Brian Nguyen said, “I thought the winter festival was fun, especially spending time with my friends and other classmates.”
