Fountain Valley girls basketball is currently tied for third in league. Overall, the team’s goal is to place either second or third in league behind Huntington, who is undefeated.

On Thursday, Jan. 23, Marina led the game in the first quarter, 12-16. Ashley Masuda (’15) and Emily Krause (’14) both shot 3-pointers.

Fountain Valley rebounded during the second quarter and led Marina, 25-24. The girls did well both offensively and defensively during the first half.

“In the first half, we took care of the ball and only had three turnovers,” said head coach Clark “and for a really long stretch we were able to control offensively what we wanted to do.”

During the second half of the game, the Lady Barons forced them to change into playing a zone defense with their offensive executions.

In the third quarter, the Barons focused more on its defense and allowed minimal shots to be made by Marina. The team continued to lead with the score,  35-31.

In the fourth quarter, the team did exceptionally well offensively. There were multiple rebounds by Michelle Wu (’15) , Andie Kristinat (’17), and Mikaila Pacis (’16), and also a steal by Amy Yoshinaga (’14).

“We’ve been a little disconnected lately and today we came together as a team and were able to pull out for one,” said co-captain Ashley Masuda (’15). The game ended, 54-45.

“Today’s game was one of the best games we’ve played in a long time. We came out to play, the girls stuck to the game plan of defensive pressure, and it was good execution,” said assistant coach Craig.

By the end of the game, Krause (’14) scored 20 points, Masuda (’15) scored 10 points, and Ari Jacobson (’15) scored 13 points.

“I think we learned how to play as a team more. In the last couple games we haven’t really been playing together, we’ve been playing individually and tonight we played together and we were able to pull it together to a win,” said co-captain Emily Krause (’14).
