Here are your morning announcements for Friday, February 28th, 2014…     

Congratulations to Boys Tennis who are currently ranked 8th in Southern California.  The Varsity team beat L.B. Poly 13 to 5 and tied #7 Mira Costa.  The Boys are off to a great start this season.  Go Barons!

Attention all Baron Student Athletes, you and your parents are invited to attend our annual Playing Sports in College Night, on Monday, March 3rd @ 7:00 pm in the gym; this year the focus of the evening will be on “The True Facts about College Athletic Recruiting”. Our guest speaker will be noted author and former college coach Jack Renkins of Recruiting Realities.  If you have any thoughts about playing your sport in college, this is a “can’t miss” event. Hey Barons, are you ready for March Madness?  Do you ball til’ you fall? Well get your team together because sign-ups start next week outside of the Activities Office on Monday, the 3rd, and will go through Friday, the 7th.  Each team must have 3 players plus 2 subs and have at least ONE female. Each player must pay $5 when signing up!  Brackets will be made once all teams have entered and actual game play will start March 10th.

Hey Barons, this year’s Senior Commission dance is coming up!  The theme is Spring Semi-Formal! Semi-Formal means casual dresses for girls and shirt and pants for guys. Go dig something out of your closet and come out for a great time! The dance will be next Friday, March 7 from 8-11 and tickets will be on sale all next week at LUNCH ONLY at the Financial office window.  Prices are $15 with SB/ASB, $20 without.  Be sure to beat the lines and buy early!  Clearance necessary for this dance, guest contracts are currently available in the Supervision office and must be turned in to the Supervision office no later than 3:00pm on Tuesday, March 4th.  Everyone must have a valid ID and ticket to enter the dance.

Senior salutations are due today. The order form can be found on the FVHS website with further details.

Hey Students, teachers & staff… Do you have a special talent that you would like to take to the stage.  It’s time for auditions for the District Wide Talent Show.  Applications are due Monday, March 3rd.   Any talent will do, singing, dancing, telling a joke… Or maybe you are the next Steven Speilberg or Alfred Hitchcock, then the Film Festival is for you.  You should enter our District Surf City Film Festival. Applications and films are due March 3rd.  You can get applications for Both of these events in the Activities Office.

Due to the weather, the Power 106 DJ will be rescheduled!

Seniors who are attending the GWC and or OCC field trip should turn in their permisson slips to the Career Center on Monday, March 3. At that time you can also sign up to take the Soar Placement Test. The test will be offered on March 24, 25 and 26 but sign ups start on Monday! (end 3/3)

 

Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors come and attend our Out of State College Fair on Tuesday, March 4th at 6:30pm in the Cafeteria. We will be hosting colleges from North Carolina, Nevada, Colorado, Oklahoma and Arizona to name a few. Many of these colleges are still accepting applications for Fall 2014 and do not have impacted programs or majors. See you Tues at 6:30pm for the Out of State College Fair!  (end 3/3)

Class Ring orders will be taken Friday, March 7th by the Cafeteria during Lunch.  Samples of all Rings and Stones will be on display at time of order.  Design your custom class ring online at Jostens.com.  Extra ordering packets are available in the Activities Office.

Congratulations to the following members of FVHS FBLA for placing in last weekend’s FBLA Southern Section Conference: Brenton Phung, 9th Place in Economics;  Claire Pritchard, 6th Place in Impromptu Speaking;  Diana Pham-Tran, 5th Place in Marketing;  Jayne Yokoyama, 5th Place in Marketing, 3rd Place in Hospitality Management; Jon Pham, 8th Place in Business Calculations,

6th Place in Management Decision Making;  Jonny Bui, 6th Place in Management Decision Making;

Stella Lee, 9th Place Business Procedures, 3rd Place in Hospitality Management; Trang Le, 9th Place Name Tag Competition, 6th Place Management Decision Making.

Over the weekend students from the Baron Banner competed against other high school journalism programs in Orange County and represented Fountain Valley well. BaronNews.com won 1st place for online newspaper, Tue Duong took 1st in news photograph, Brent Frederisy placed 2nd in news writing, Ashley Le and Ryan Chu placed third in news photography and editorial cartooning respectively. Jennifer Chu and Shani Tra earned an Excellence in novice news. Other students that placed in the top 10 in their divisions were: Jackie Liu, Alaidria Hendrix, and Katrya Ly. Great job Baron journalists!

Senior Tue Duong received Honorable Mention in the first ever White House Film Festival. Tue directed and produced a video about technology in education that will be featured on the White House website. Hats off to Tue, Ryan Thai, Nicole Lu and the BBN crew for their fine work that stood above over 2,000 entries from all over the country.

Here are your morning announcements for Monday, February 24th, 2014…     

In what continues to be a record setting season, our wrestlers took 3rd place in C.I.F. with 7 place winners! This was the best CIF finish since 1985.  Medalist were: Senior Quentin Gomez 6th, Freshmen Carson Ayers 5th, Junior Ben Madrid 4th, and making it to the finals, Sophomore Blake Vasquez 2nd place.  Congratulations to this year’s three C.I.F. Champions, Andrew Morgan, Stone Escobedo, and Bryant Vasquez!  6 of these Baron wrestlers will compete next weekend in the Southern Section Masters meet with a chance to win a qualifying spot to the California State Championships.  Come to the Bowl tomorrow at lunch to honor our CIF Champions!!!

What an amazing day yesterday! The FVHS dance team hosted a USA regional competition in our gym and 26 other high schools showed up to compete!! Our officers,  jazz, and Large hip hop team placed 3rd and our Character dance placed 2nd. The small and medium hip hop teams both received 1st place! There was a large and very competitive solo category this year and out of 40 competitors we had 2 of our own girls place in the top 5! Congratulations to Amanda Kolb and Alyssa Loeffelman!!

All teams are now qualified for the championship division for Finals in March.

Baron Academic Foundation is looking for next year’s Planner Cover design and a New Logo design. $100 prize for each of the winning submissions.  For more information, go to the school webiste under the “parents” tab and click on “Foundation” for details.

Guest contracts for the Spring Dance are available in the Supervision office.  Stop by and pick one up if you are bringing a guest from outside of our school.  They are located in the rack on the wall just outside of the Supervision office.  All guest contracts must be turned in to the Supervision office no later than 3:00pm on Tuesday, March 4th.

Attention Seniors, see your current World Language teacher or your Guidance Specialist for a Seal of Biliteracy application.  Applications are due in the box outside Mrs. Peterson’s office on Friday, March 28th.

The Supervision office has placed warnings on cars with parking permits that do not match the vehicle listed on the permit.  Please come to the supervision office if you would like to add that vehicle to your permit or have questions.  Beginning Monday, February 24th, Citations will be issued to cars parked in the parking lot that do not correspond with the permit.

The Fountain Valley High School Girls Varsity Soccer team will be making its first CIF playoff appearance since 2003 this Friday, February 21st vs Corona Del Mar HS.  CDM won the Pacific Coast league for the 3rd year in a row and is a #1 ranked team. The match will be played at Estancia High School’s Jim Scott Stadium in Costa Mesa.  Kickoff will be at 7pm! So come on out and support the team as it takes its next step toward not only a playoff win but a CIF championship!

We will see you at the game!  GO BARONS!!

Here are your morning announcements for Tuesday, February 18, 2014…     

Dance team did an amazing job once again at this past weekends Street dance competition. The medium and small hip hop teams both placed 2nd and the large team placed 1st!!  Brandon Nguyen and Sarah Sulewski performed in the duet category and placed 6th.  This upcoming Sunday there will be a USA competition here on our campus in the gym from 8am- 6 pm.  Please come out and support our team!!

Congratulations to our Color Guard for running away with not one but TWO 1st Place Awards Saturday.  FV now has two teams, a Varsity and a JV Color Guard team this Spring since there are so many members.  Each team won their own division. The JV squad is doing such an amazing job, the judging association has decided to bump them into a higher division for the rest of the competition season! Great Job Ladies!
And our Percussion Section also won another 1st place 2 Saturdays ago in the Open Percussion Division.  FVHS Performing Arts is STRONG again this year…  Good Job Barons!!!

Congratulations to Nikki Tran, Michael Peters and the Advanced Theatre Classes for their work at the Chapman Shakespeare Festival.  Michael  and Nikki both won for Outstanding Performances in a scene.

Congratulations to Maya Greenfield-Thong and Erin Bola for their work on the Fountain Valley Cappies Team.  Their play reviews were selected for publication throughout Orange County.

Here are your morning announcements for Friday, February 14, 2014…     

Congratulations to the FVHS Girls Varsity Soccer team for finishing their regular season with a huge 1-0 win over Sunset League Rivals Edison High School.  From the opening whistle, the Barons dominated the match but could not find the back of the net until less than 10 minutes remaining, Junior defender, Kiki Densmore, converted a penalty kick and helped FVHS shut out the Chargers.  The victory was the 13th on the season and sends FVHS into an exciting playoff match today vs. Los Alamitos H.S for an automatic CIF Playoff Bid!  The game will be held at a neutral venue, Edison High School at 2:45.  Our Varsity squad has not been to the CIF Playoffs in over a decade so come on out and support the girls, show your Baron Pride and help push the team into the Playoffs!!  Go Barons!

Congratulations to the boys varsity soccer team for beating Marina 2-1 in over time . Zaid Dahhaj scored the first goal of the game. Jacob Shubin scored the game winner in over time. Great job Barons!

Congratulations go out to our Academic Decathlon team! Our decathletes pulled in an impressive haul of over 38 individual medals, placed 2nd in the Super Quiz, and 5th place overall! Seniors Umbreen Ali, Beverly Pham, Millie Koong, and Kalinda Hung each brought home a ridiculous amount of medals! We are so proud of you all!! Congratulations again!!

Congratulations to the dance team for another great competition day. The team competed at a USA regional completion at Sonora High School. Officers placed 3rd, Jazz 5th, Small hiphop 5th, medium hiphop 1st and Lyrical 1!! All of these teams now qualify for championship categories at the upcoming USA national competition!! Great work ladies!!

They are currently accepting applications for students ages 15-17yrs old. Consider joining this unique unit that is designed to provide career and personal development. (end Feb. 12)

Were you nominated for B4L this month?  Check out the list of nominees posted on the Supervision window.  All nominees will be entered into the B4L raffle this Friday, Valentine’s Day, in the bowl at lunch.  Ten lucky winners will receive at $25 dollar gift card.  Winners must be present to win.

Barons, today at lunch is the last day to buy singing Valentine Grams!  Grams are $3 and can be bought from any Concert Choir member or near Room 307 at lunch.   ALL GRAMS MUST BE TURNED IN BY END OF LUNCH TODAY!!

Attention all faculty– please join us in the soccer stadium tomorrow afternoon @ 3:00pm for our last varsity girl’s soccer match. Our girls are facing off against Edison in their final league game before playoffs. Bring your beach chair and hang out underneath the scoreboard!

Here are your morning announcements for Friday, February 7, 2014…     

FVHS Girls Varsity soccer moves one step closer to gaining its first CIF playoff berth in many years by beating Newport Harbor High School 2-1 in yesterday’s home match. It is the 12 victory for the lady barons this season and the 3rd in Sunset League play. With only two games remaining it should be a thrilling finish! Their next match is next Tuesday on the road versus Marina HS. The squad finishes out the winter 2 days later against Edison HS at home in what should be an exciting ‘Game of the Week’! GO BARONS!

For the third year in a row, our wrestlers won Sunset League finals yesterday with 11 varsity wrestlers qualifying for CIF and 6 Sunset League Champions! First time league champions include: Carson Ayres, David Galdimez, Blake Vasquez, and Ben Madrid.  Captains Bryant Vasquez and Andrew Morgan defended their titles to become 2 time champions. Congratulations to all our wrestlers and coaches on an outstanding regular season and good luck in the CIF championships!

Attention all swimmers, the Santa Barbara travel trip roster has been expanded and set.  Check the team’s school webpage for further information.  There will be all hands meeting next Wednesday February 12th during 6th period, all athletes involved with the swim team need to check-in Wednesday February 12th.

Vocal Music Singing Grams are on sale at lunch by Room 307 or from any Concert Choir member.  Grams are only $3.00 and sales end next Wednesday.  Our singing Grams include a beautiful red carnation, and a specially designed gram in which you can write a personalized message to that person!    Delivery will be during periods 1-4 on the 14th.  Don’t hang onto those feelings Barons – share that love!

Any senior or junior students interested in attending the Orange County Career Forum on Friday, Feb. 28th please come register in the Career Center. We have limited space and spots fill up fast.

Did your schedule change and  your last class is now before lunch this semester?  Come by the Supervision office to have the out after 4th sticker put on your ID.  You must have the sticker by next Wednesday, February 12th.

The Varsity Wrestling team defeated Marina last night 41-33 to win their third consecutive Sunset League Championship! Captains Bryant Vasquez and Andrew Morgan recorded pins to lead the team. Other victories included: Carson Ayers, Kyle Knooke, David Galdamez, Blake Vasquez, Ben Madrid, and Alex Damschen. Congratulations and good luck on tomorrow’s individual league finals at Newport Harbor.

At the door, dance tickets will be $5 with SB, $7 without. If you have a SB or ASB card and you buy a presale ticket, you’ll get to enjoy the dance and the game for only $3!

All swimmers need to check in with the coaching staff for their assigned clearance date. Our first clearance day is Wednesday, Feb. 5 during sixth period. Each athlete has been assigned to one of three training groups: varsity, junior varsity, and open. The list is posted on the coaches window; check in today to see which squad you made.

Attention all Baron student athletes (that’s anyone who plays any sport at any level)– you and your parents are invited to attend our annual Playing Sports in College Night, on Monday, March 3 at 7 p.m. in the gym; this year the focus of the evening will be on “The True Facts about College Athletic Recruiting.” Our guest speaker will be noted author and former college coach Jack Renkins of Recruiting Realities. Jack’s no nonsense, entertaining 60-minute presentation will focus on the realities of College Athletic Recruiting and all you need to know about playing college athletics.
