Senior night brought great vibes and energized the boys as they faced off against Marina in their second match-up. Only this time, Fountain Valley outscored the Vikings, 65-54.

Seniors Travis Lam (’14), Jordan Venters (’14), Cory Bitzer (’14), Richard Le (’14), and John Volkert (’14) were all honored with their families before the game.

Le kicked off the game with a three-point basket, and the Barons kept the lead throughout the first quarter. Turnovers and unconverted shots by Marina allowed Fountain Valley to end the quarter with two points ahead, 12-10.

The Baron’s momentum was established early as they were able to deploy their bench players before the end of the half. Le scored two of his five three-point buckets in the second quarter. With a tight defense on Marina the Vikings, Fountain Valley kept its upper hand, leading the scoreboard, 30-25, by half-time.

Marina’s emphasis on a better inside game was countered by Fountain Valley’s strong deflections in the key. The Barons maintained a consistent hand from outside the arch throughout the second half as Volkert was able to land some three-pointers as well. Great jumpers sealed Marina’s fate, with the Barons eleven points ahead at the game’s end.

Le led the team’s scoring with 20 points, 15 of them coming from three-point shots. Venters finished with 12 points while Chris Meyer (’15), Bitzer, and Volkert tacked on 11.
