Ten senior Barons competed to win the title of Mr. Baron last Friday night, showcasing their skills in the interview, swimsuit, creative, culture, and talent portions.

The hosts were Nick Nguyen (‘15) and Matt Iida (‘15), who entertained the audience between portions with pranks and jokes.

The contestants of Mr. Baron were Alan Loi, Alan Nguyen, David Abraham, Jeremy Flores, Jordan Venters,  Jun Koo, Ramsey Aguilera, Scott Wilson, Sean Taylor, and Steven Truong.

During the talent portion, Alan Nguyen wowed the audience by performing a hilarious rendition of Elvis Presley’s song “Are You Lonesome Tonight,” as did Sean Taylor with “Fine By Me” by Andy Grammar, Scott Wilson’s cover of “L.O.V.E.” by Nat King Cole and a noteworthy performance by Jeremy Flores with his original speakeasy titled “Beauty.”

“I decided to try out for Mr. Baron because I wanted to experience all the fruits of high school and to not graduate with any missed opportunities,” said Nguyen.

The contestants diligently rehearsed their acts in order to wow the judges and the audience.

“The hardest challenge participating in Mr. Baron was finding the time and also the dedication to keep up with the obligations of being on Mr. Baron,” said Koo.

At the end of the pageant, the winners were announced. Best Dressed went to Jun Koo, Most Talented to Jeremy Flores, Mr. Congeniality to Scott Wilson, and Crowd Favorite to Jordan Venters. Runner-up was Sean Taylor, and the Mr. Baron title was awarded to Alan Nguyen.

“Being in Mr. Baron was an amazing experience,” said Nguyen. “It was a lot of fun to perform for all of the categories! My adrenaline was pumped the entire time!”
