During first and second period last Monday, Cori Brooks, the Child Development and Foods 2 teacher, organized a child observation day for her students.

Child Development Observation Day is a day when children are brought in to be observed. The goal is to allow students to apply what they have learned throughout the year and observe the physical, emotional, and intellectual behavior of the children. This is also a chance for the students to be able to interact with children.

Most of the children that came in were relatives or close friends of the students and teacher. Steven McCuro was one of the students who brought his younger brother, Colton McCuro in.

“Our students have brought in their nieces and nephews. Friends of mine, some of them are teachers, have all volunteered to bring their kids in,” said Brooks.

The desks and chairs were pushed aside as a circle of chairs formed around a play area set up for the kids. There were various types of toys, coloring areas, and reading where the kids could play in. The kids were free to play with want they want as the students observe.

“Since we don’t get a lot of opportunities to interact [with children], we have some come in,” said Brooks.
