The third annual Baron Games took place last Friday, during third period in the bowl. The games pinned freshmen and seniors as the blue team against sophomores and juniors as the gold team.

Throughout the week, Barons dressed up for Mannered Monday, Tourist Tuesday, Wild Wednesday, Old-Timer Thursday, and Baron Games Friday. Students that previously signed up to be tributes were called each day to participate in corresponding lunch time activities. Through the dress up days and activities, both teams were able to win points for their teams and gain an advantage during the actual games.

“My favorite part about Baron Games was the dress up days,” Andy Pham (’16) said. “It really showed the school’s enthusiasm and spirit.”

The Baron Games consisted of an egg challenge, crowd surfing relay, tug-of-war, a detention slip gathering, as well as a ping pong activity.  Although the gold team came into the games with a two point lead, the blue team dominated the scoreboard during the first half. The gold team fought to maintain their score, but in the end, the blue team defeated them by a single point.

After his first Baron Games, Brian Nguyen (’17) said, “I liked how everyone got together and we were all cheering with one voice for B4L.”

This year, FVHS forged a sponsorship with Active to place a sock machine on campus, as well as provide t-shirts that would allow students to sit in a colorful splash zone during the games. Students were able to buy the shirts for $5 during the week and received them before the assembly. Throughout the Baron Games, ASB members continuously splashed blue and yellow powder on those sitting in the Splash Zone. For the grand finale, various colors such as orange, green, and red were thrown at the students as blue and gold streamers launched into the crowd.
