Here are your morning announcements for Tuesday, May 27, 2014…     

Seniors due to Prom Ticket Sales, we won’t begin handing out Graduation tickets until Thursday.

If you have a team signed up for Dodge Ball be sure to check the activities office window today to see if you play today! Barons, come to the gym at lunch to cheer on your favorite teams.

Hey Seniors, get your Senior Mug Now – $18.00 w/candy, $15.00 without.  You can buy your mug from Mrs. Villela in the front office or at any Senior Activity.  Make checks payable to FVHS Grad Night.

Sophomore support will have two study sessions this week on Wednesday and Thursday. Go to Room 121 from 3-4 and get detentions cleared while you study for finals! Questions see Ms. Olaya or Ms. Perez.

Seniors that need to be cleared for Academic Recognition must return their completed Clearance Card to their Guidance Specialist by 4:00pm tomorrow, Wednesday.

Red Cross is hosting its very last blood drive of the school year this Wednesday, May 28th. To donate, you must be at least 17 years old and a 110 lbs. or more. Seniors! Government hours will also be given out for donating blood. If you’re interested in donating, please stop by room 405 during lunch for more information.

Attention Athletes and Performing Arts, the Spring Physical is going to be at Marina High School next Wednesday, May 28th from 5:00-8:00pm.  The cost is $30.00.  Download the forms at www.fvhsathletics.com

Interested in Mock Trial? The mock trial seminars to practice your skills for tryouts are Tuesday, May 27 and Wednesday, May 28 at 3 pm in room 131. If you want to try out, make sure to come to room 131 Thursday, May 29 at 3 pm. You are not able to try out if you don’t attend May 29!

Donations are needed – Grad Night needs Soda, Water, Wrapped Candy… The Fire Dept is accepting donations for us.  Please donate if you can as it takes a lot of these items to keep 500+ teenagers hydrated and going until 5am!  You can bring donated items to the fire station directly across the street from FVHS at anytime.  Please place them in the covered areas right at the front of the station.  Bottled water and any type of soda, Coke, Pepsi, Root Beer, Sunkist, Sprite, 7-up, cans are needed. NO BOTTLES of soda please.  Wrapped candy in bite sized packages are perfect.  Please just drop off at your convenience.

Calling all Barons! The varsity baseball team needs your support today! Please come out and support the baseball team at 315 for their first round CIF playoff game. The Sunset League champions play Lakewood here at home. Please come on out for a great day of baseball!

All Link Crew applicants need to stop by the 240 hallway and see the posted list of accepted members for Link Crew 2014.  Thank you to all who applied.

Applications are open for the 2014-2015 Cappies team. Lead Critic applications are due today. Regular critic applications are due June 6th. There will be an informational meeting May 30th during lunch in Room 309.

Please attend our PTSA meeting tonight at 7:00 pm in the media center!  We have two fantastic speakers lined up for the evening.  First up will be a local fitness expert, Zenia Joyner of Fit Body Boot Camp in Fountain Valley.  Next, will be Tom Bottorf an Admissions and Financial Aid Expert, who is going to teach us how to get “free money” for college. Tom will explain his tried and proven 7 step process to receive “free money”.  Learn what our freshman, sophomore and junior students should be doing this summer and next fall in order to receive lots of money.  You’ll want to hear this!  PTSA business will be conducted from 6:30 – 7:00 pm.

Congratulations to Elyse Basquez for being selected as the Rotary Most Improved Student of the Month for May. Elyse has really made an impression with her positive, helpful attitude and behavior. Great job Elyse!”

Congratulations to the Varsity Baseball team for their second consecutive Sunset League title! Scott Schultz improved his record to 13 and 0. Daniel Patzlaff continued his hitting with a double and two singles. That pushed his Sunset league average to .511. The Barons will find out on Monday who their first round opponent will be. Playoffs will begin next Friday. Please come out and support the Barons.

The JV baseball team ended its season with a dominant 13-1 win over rival Edison. The 100 degree sun didn’t slow down the Baron bats, as FV hitters sprayed hard hit doubles all over the field. Junior Stephen Fedele collected 4 hits and 5 runs batted in on the day. Pitchers stifled Edison bats and the defense did its part, holding Edison to just one run on 4 hits. And sophomore Michael Murphy led the team in good attitude on the day. Good season Barons.

Congrats to our track team who will be competing at the CIF Division 1 Prelims this Saturday at Trabuco Hills High School. Field events start at 11:00, running events start at 12:00. Good luck to our track athletes who qualified from Fountain Valley.

Congratulations to Ariana Isbell for being selected by the city of Huntington Beach to visit its sister city in Japan as an ambassador this summer!

Congratulations to Kasey Liong and Vi Pham for winning a scholarship from the Youth For Understanding Program!  They will attend a local high school in Japan 6 weeks to learn about the Japanese culture and to better their Japanese language skills.  We are so proud of you!  Have fun in Japan!!

Great news Coastline ROP has partnered with Golden West Community College to create the Automotive Technology Academy.  This is an amazing opportunity for any student interested in working in the automotive field.  Seniors will be allowed to take a yearlong Auto Tech class on the Golden West campus.  These classes will not only earn them high school credits but also college credits.  After they complete these classes through ROP they will only have one more year to get their certificate.  There are quick deadlines for this class, if you are interested in taking this class, please see Ms Sanders in the Career Center.

Congratulations to Boys Tennis players Darrin Nguyen & Parker Braverman who’s doubles team qualified for CIF Individual Playoffs and to Dan Tran who won the JV Sunset League Championship.  There will be an article in this Saturday’s OC Register about Baron Tennis!

Congratulations Lady Barons Softball for beating Newport Harbor 10 – 1.  It was a great team effort!

Only TWO Saturday Schools before Prom and THREE before graduation!  The next Saturday School is tomorrow in the cafeteria.  It starts promptly at 7:30am and ends at 11:45.  Time to get cleared!

It’s coming…The annual dance team Spring Show! The show is tomorrow in our gym at 6pm. Come see all of the teams’ award winning dances from this competition season!! They will perform all of their jazz, lyrical, hip hop character and solo routines from this season as well as several guest performers.  Tickets are $5 presale and $7 at the door.  Hope to see you all there!!

Next week is the Dance Team Auditions for the 2014-2015 Dance Team. If you want to be a part of our amazing performing and competing dance team then you must come to the auditions next week. Auditions start on Monday, May12th, at 5:00pm, in room 309. Information and packets are on the FVHS dance team website. See Mrs. Allen in room 210 for any questions.

 

Hey Baron Game Blue Team Members, Freshman & Seniors, today is the last day to take advantage of 1 detention clearance for winning Baron Games.  You must pick up a clearance form in the Activities Office.

Barons, if you need to make up your CAHSEE exams, you must report to the Faculty Dining Room May 13th and 14th by 7:45am. You must have a picture ID when registering.

The Miss Fountain Valley Scholarship Pageant Representatives will be visiting campus on Friday during lunch. All students interested in the scholarship and pageant can get the forms and sign up in front of the cafeteria. The deadline to sign up will be Aug. 31 and the Pageant will be held on November 1. They will have more information on Friday so be sure to stop by the table in front of the cafeteria.

If you are a senior with a minimum GPA of 3.0, have done any community service at school or outside of school, you or your parent are a member of the Baron Academic Foundation and are planning to further your education then you can apply for the Meg Kelly Scholarship.  Applications are available in the Career Center.  Due date is May 15.

Juniors you have until today to register for the June SAT or ACT test. After that you will be paying “Late Registration fees” You can register online for the SAT at Collegeboard.org or the ACT at ACT.org. If you have questions please stop by the Career Center.

Only TWO Saturday Schools before Prom and THREE before graduation!  The next Saturday School is this weekend in the cafeteria.  It starts promptly at 7:30am and ends at 11:45.  Time to get cleared!

Please make sure you pick up your two complimentary tickets in the Activities Office during lunch at the Financial Window on May 8th and 9th ONLY.  Remind your parents that the Coronet Award ceremony will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Huntington Beach High School.  Doors will be open at 6:00 p.m. and the ceremony will begin at 7:00 p.m. promptly.

It’s coming…The annual dance team Spring Show! The show is this Saturday in our gym at 6pm. Come see all of the teams’ award winning dances from this competition season!! They will perform all of their jazz, lyrical, hip hop character and solo routines from this season as well as several guest performers.  Tickets are $5 presale and $7 at the door.  Hope to see you all there!!
Next week are the Dance Team Auditions for the 2014-2015 dance team. If you want to be a part of our amazing performing and competing dance team then you must come to the auditions next week. Barons, if you need to make up your CAHSEE exams, you must report to the Faculty Dining Room May 13th and 14th by 7:45am. You must have a picture ID when registering.

Mock Trial is having an informational on Monday, May 19 at 3 pm in Ms. La Framboise’s room 131. Come learn more about one of the top ranked academic teams in Orange County!
