Last Saturday FV students showed their support for the fight against cancer at the Relay for Life event hosted on the FVHS track.

Participants at Relay for Life walked  the track to raise money for the fundraiser. All proceeds and donations from the event went toward raising money for cancer research. Some participants even camped out overnight in tents.

The Luminaria Ceremony also took place during the event. The ceremony honored people who recently passed away from cancer.

“The Luminaria Ceremony was extremely emotional because it was a ceremony dedicated to remembrance and hope for those that perished due to cancer, and also to honor the survivors of the dreadful disease,” said participant Chris Le (’15).

Food, activities and entertainment were also provided. FV students volunteered by registering walkers, serving food and handing out balloons.

“I had a great time at Relay for Life,” said Carol Wann (‘17). “There was a lot of new people to meet and volunteer with, and it was heartwarming to see all the smiles that the cancer survivors had.”
