On Tuesday, Sept. 9, the top European a capella group, All the King’s Men, flew in from London to visit FVHS. The group represented all of Europe’s a capella groups at the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella or ICCAs in New York and have been performing all over the world. All four of the FVHS choirs were given the opportunity to have the group lead a workshop.

“All the King’s Men were awesome,” said Zury Ramirez (’15), an FVHS troubadour. “They were funny, crazy and great teachers.”

Led by director Gus Nicholson, the group taught the FVHS choirs many different important techniques. The group started with easier material for the beginning choirs and as the ability of the choirs increased, so did the difficulty of the workshops. For example, concert choir was able to learn the art of harmonizing through vocal percussion.

“All the choirs are such great singers and over fast learners,” said Thana’a Mohajed, an All the King’s Men tenor.

After working with all the FVHS choirs, All the King’s men performed at lunch in the bowl. The crowd watched attentivley, cheering and jumping around throughout the show. The group sang everything from Lady Gaga to Jungle Book. It was an unforgettable experience for both the group and the many students who flocked to the bowl for the concert.

“Our favorite part of coming to FVHS is the reception. Everyone is so welcoming,” said Cameron Carr, administrator of tours and one of the groups basses. “We love the weather. We were looking at the stage and we thought ‘This is the first concert we have done that we might get sunburned.
