Orange County high school districts have partnered with Creative Cookbooks, a company connected with the consumer and family departments, to fundraise for budget-cut classes. The sale homemade cookbooks started over 20 years ago, and continues to grow with the help of home economic teachers, students from the courses, and the cookbook company.

The departments sell two cookbooks that include recipes ranging from entrees to desserts from Fountain Valley teachers. Students and teachers alike believe that the easy recipes appeal to anyone and work well as a fundraiser.

“It’s a good idea because [the recipes] are easy and everyone has someone in the family that cooks so its useful too,” Taylor Carr (’16) said.

Students have been selling the cookbooks from October 29 and will continue until November 7. Each cookbook is $10 and 40 percent of the profits go toward the school.

“We have a goal to collect somewhere [between] three to four thousand dollars,” said Kerry Doll, a home economics teacher.

The cookbook sale helps supplement the funds the Consumer departments receive from the district.

“This is an important fundraiser for the department,” Doll stated. “We need the money so that the we can take students on field-trips, purchase better equipment, and make the classes more interesting.”
