Morning announcements for Friday, February 27th, 2015:     

Attention Students: THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT THE 2015 CORONET AWARDS.  Coronets Awards are considered our school’s highest honor.  Applications for the Coronets Awards are now available on FVHS.com.  Students who would like to be nominated for a Coronet award should fill out the Google form available online.  All applications must be submitted online no later than Friday March 20, 2015.

Congratulations to Boys Tennis on their victory over Long Beach Poly 14 to 4.  This is a good start to the Tennis Season.

Class Ring orders will be taken next Thursday, March 5th by the Cafeteria during Lunch.  Samples of all Rings and Stones will be on display at time of order.  Extra ordering packets are available in the Activities Office.

Attention Seniors:  A list of students who have qualified for the Seal of Bi-literacy has been posted on the ATTENDANCE OFFICE windows and in level 4 World Language classrooms.  If you are not on the list, but are a native speaker of Vietnamese, and would like to take a test to demonstrate your language proficiency, please see Mrs. Doan in the Guidance Office.

Seniors, sign-ups for the Orange Coast College Senior Day event will begin Monday, March 2nd in the Career Center.  There are also still spots available for the Golden West Preview Day scheduled for March 5th.

Seniors, don’t forget tomorrow is the Postmark deadline to purchase your Grad Night Ticket for $100.00. After that the price goes up to $120.00.

Morning announcements for Wednesday, February 25th, 2015:       

Baron Teachers, Staff and Students…. We encourage all of you to come cheer on our Girls Basketball Team in their 2nd Round of CIF Playoffs tonight at 7:00pm in our Gym.  We have a DJ, we have our Varsity Cheer Leaders, we have our Loud Crowd and we need you.. our Baron Family!  These girls can hoop it up and they can sink the 3 pointer.  It’s a Blue Out, make sure to wear your Baron Blue!!!  Tickets are $5.00 for students and $10.00 for adults.  Go Lady Barons!

The following Student-Athletes were recognized Monday Feb 23rd at the Orange County Athletic Director’s Association dinner as Athletes of Character. Ryann Callaghan – Field Hockey & Soccer; Jake Arnold – Basketball & Golf. Please join the Athletic Department in congratulating these fine young FVHS student-athletes in their athletic accomplishments but more importantly for being individuals of integrity and character.

This past Sunday the Dance team hosted a USA regional competition here on campus. There were 26 high schools and close to 1000 dancers.  It was a huge success!!  The lyrical and small hip hop teams have placed high enough to qualify for the championship category at Nationals.  Great job to everyone and good look at Woodridge this weekend!!

Congratulations to Phantom Troupe on winning the 2015 Dodge Ball Tournament!  Don’t forget we will be crowning the winners next week in the bowl for a lunch time activity!

Any student interested in joining the Marines or the Marine ROTC program can come to a special presentation at 11:30 this morning in the Career Center. You must get permission from your teacher to attend. After the presentation they will have a table set up during lunch outside the Cafeteria. Thats today, meet the Marines and learn about ROTC at 11:30 in the Career Center.

College Fun Fact Wednesday – Did you know Jack Johnson was a graduate of UC Santa Barbara?  In his song Bubble Toes, he sings “Well I was eating lunch at the D.L.G., when this little girl came and she sat next to me,” which refers to when he met his wife, also a UCSB student at the time, in one of the campus’s 4 cafeterias called the De La Guerra dining hall.

Morning announcements for Monday, February 23rd, 2015:

Congratulations to Girls Basketball on their 1st round victory over Schurr 70 to 65.  Our Lady Barons have a home game versus Windward in the second round of CIF, this Wednesday at 7pm.  Remember Barons, this is a CIF game, so you must purchase tickets.  They are $5 for students and $10 for adults.  Tickets will be on sale at the financial office starting tomorrow morning.  Come out and support your lady Barons at home wearing BLUE.  Blue game shirts will be available to purchase at lunch for $5.  Get to the game early for face paint!

Our Baron wrestlers are 2015 C.I.F. CHAMPIONS!  This is our first C.I.F. team championship in over 30 years!  In addition to the team title, we had 4 individual C.I.F. Champions, Andrew Morgan, Stone Escobedo, Ben Madrid, and Blake Vasquez.  This was the 2nd Individual title for Stone and Andrew!  Karson Ayers and Gunner Brisbine both placed 5th. These 6 wrestlers will compete next weekend in the Southern Section Masters meet with a chance to win a qualifying spot to the California State Championships.  Make sure to congratulate all our wrestlers and coaches on an amazing record setting season.

Attention Boys’ Soccer, congratulations on a great season!  There will be a mandatory meeting tomorrow at 2:00 on the Varsity field for all returners. Don’t be late!

Attention Women in Sports participating female athletes – The conference is this Wednesday, Feb 25th.  Meet in front of administration building at 7:15am sharp wearing a Baron Sweatshirt.  Do not be late.  Turn in your permission slip to Mrs. Lawler ASAP if you haven’t done so already.

Our OC Championship Winning Cappies Team is at it again.  Erin Bola was selected for publication in the OC Register for her writing this weekend.  Congratulations to Erin and the team as they continue to defend their title.

Congratulations to February Athletes of the Month, Larry Turner for Boys Soccer and Leigha Williams for Girls Soccer.

Congrats to Fountain Valley’s Virtual Enterprise class McFly Hoverboards for placing 2nd in Website Design, and having amazing reviews in salesmanship at the Long Beach Trade Fair Competition.  Keep up the great work and good luck in San Francisco and San Diego.

Last weekend the dance team hosted a West Coast Elite competition, if you missed the opportunity to see them, they will be competing again this Sunday in our gym.  This will be a USA regional competition with over 25 schools. Our solo performers start at 8am, with our teams competing from 11:30- 5:30. Some of our teams have already placed high enough to compete at nationals in a few weeks, with a few still trying to place, come support and cheer them on!!  If you’d like additional information please ask a dancer or Mrs. Allen.

Good Luck to our Boys Soccer who play Servite today at 3:00, Girls Basketball who play Schurr tomorrow night at 7:00 and our Wrestlers as they begin CIF playoffs!  All games are away.

Congratulations to FV’s Academic Decathlon for placing 5th in their division and in Super Quiz, and for bringing home over 20 individual medals.  Individual congrats go out to Junior Daniel Ahn for his impressive 4 medals including a first place in math! Senior Ryan Tran and Junior Dylan Huynh both brought home 3 medals each! Additional congrats go out to Junior Antony Tran, Seniors Cindy Wong, Kathy Nguyen, Leandra Doan, Nhi Truong, Robin Nguyen, and Thanh Vu. Great job, Barons!

FV Girls Basketball will play a first round playoff game against Schurr High School in Montebello this Saturday.  Pre-Sale Tickets are on sale now at the Financial Office.

Congratulations to our National Merit Scholarship Finalists; Amy Hoang, Christine L. Nguyen, Brandon Vu and Christian Warloe have advanced to “finalist standing” in the competition. Morning announcements for Friday, February 13th, 2015:

Congratulations to our Freshman Gold Boys Basketball team for their impressive victory over Ocean View High School yesterday afternoon.  Rami Ghanem led all scorers with 18 points and 4 three pointers in a row. The team ended the season with a 5 game winning streak. A job well done boys!

The FVHS Surf Team reigned supreme at the CCSA contest last Saturday.  The girls’ shortboard team ripped with Giovanna Scandone taking 2nd place, Delaney Millican followed closely advancing to the finals.  Eric Tello and John Hoyt dominated in all their heats, both surfing their way to 1st place finishes, with Lance Smith and Nathan Davis coming in 3rd.  Kekoa Jensen finshed 1st in his men’s longboard heat. Great job team.

This Sunday, Feb 15th, the dance team’s competition will be held here in our very own FVHS gym.  It is a West Coast Elite competition and we will be host for over 20 other schools. This is a great opportunity for all of you students and teachers to see the dance team compete without having to travel. The soloists perform at 11:30am and the team routines will perform between 1:30- 5:00pm. Please come out and support our dancers as they compete against some of the best dance teams in Southern California. For more information please ask a dancer or Mrs. Allen. Hope to see lots of you there and Good luck to all of the dancers!!

BARONS. It’s Friday the 13th, but you’re in luck! The Dodge Ball sign-ups have been extended to TODAY at lunch. The winning team will win a grand prize! It’s only $5 per player to compete against other teams and even teachers like Mrs. Lawler!  So come sign up today AT LUNCH in front of the activities office!

Are you looking for another way to serve Saturday School?  You can serve a Saturday School on a Wednesday evening.  There are four days available:  February 18th (next Wednesday!), March, 18th, April 15th and May 20th.  It starts at 3:30 and ends at 7:45pm. Morning announcements for Wednesday, February 11th, 2015:

Congratulations to the dance team for their great accomplishments this past weekend at a USA regional competition. The large Hip Hop team placed 2nd, Jazz placed 3rd and Character placed 4th. Both jazz and character have placed high enough in their division to compete at the championship level at the USA National competition in March. Sarah Funasaki performed excellent in her solo category and placed 4th against a large, very competitive group of soloist. Great job dancers!!

Congratulations to Junior Michelle Dong who has been honored by the Constitutional Rights Foundation of Orange County for her performance in Mock Trial. Michelle was one of only two students in the entire county to be awarded the honor of Outstanding Witness for her portrayal in the competition this fall.  Congratulations Michelle!

Hey Barons!   Ever watched TV’s American Idol or The Voice and thought to yourself….”I can sing better than that person!?”    Well NOW is your chance!   Our Vocal Music Program is hosting a new event called THE VOICE OF FOUNTAIN VALLEY…a solo singing competition.    The competition will be held on Saturday, March 14th in our gym, but auditions must be submitted by February 25th.    The winner will receive $150 in gift cards, a featured spread in April’s Fountain Valley Living Magazine, 2 tickets to see The Voice filmed “live” in Hollywood and a special “meet and greet” with some special guest artists in Hollywood.   Are you the VOICE of Fountain Valley?   Share your talent.  Claim the title.  More information is available at FVHSVOCALMUSIC.com or on the FVHS.com website.

Morning announcements for Tuesday, February 10th, 2015:

On Friday afternoon, the Frosh “A” Boys Basketball team defeated Los Alamitos by a score of 75-55. The victory clinched the Sunset League Championship for the Barons. With the win, the young Barons improve to 24-3 overall and 8-0 in Sunset League play. Congratulations and good luck this week to the Frosh Boys Basketball team.

Don’t forget to buy a Valentine Day Gram, they are on sale near the activities office at lunch for only $3.00 or from any Concert Choir member!  You have until the end of lunch tomorrow to turn it in.

Attention seniors – the Senior Panorama picture will be tomorrow, February 11th during BAT.  Seniors, please drop your belongings in your third period class and head to the bowl on Wednesday.  And remember seniors, no signs or the spelling out of any messages.

Morning announcements for Friday, February 6th, 2015:

Wednesday afternoon the Freshman “A” Boys Basketball team defeated visiting Edison by a score of 48-27.  With the win, the Freshman improve their record to 23-3 overall and 7-0 in Sunset League play. The frosh play at home Friday, at 4:00pm, against Los Alamitos. Great job Frosh Boys Basketball.

Our wrestlers continued their domination of the Sunset League last night with 13 wrestlers qualifying for individual CIF & 7 League Champions, the most in school history!  First time champions include: Stone Escobedo and Isaiah Prado. 2 time League champions were: Karson Ayres, Ben Madrid, David Galdamez and Blake Vasquez.  Senior Captain Andrew Morgan became a 3 time Sunset League Champion! Congratulations on such a great season and good luck at CIF Finals in 2 weeks.

Congratulations to Girls Varsity Soccer for their 2 to 1 sudden death victory over visiting Los Alamitos.  FV opened the scoring in the first half with a goal by Selena Yaghoubi assisted by Ryann Callaghan.  Los Al tied the match with 15 minutes to go sending the game to in to overtime.  The Lady Barons rallied in extra time and won the match on a “Golden Goal” by senior, Jessica Bracken.  Great job Barons!  The Lady Barons next match is on Monday where they host the #2 CIF ranked HB Oilers at 3:00pm

Congratulations to the Boys Varsity Soccer team for their MONSTER win against Edison.  Jacob Shubin scored two goals, Abraham Rodriguez and Andrew Rubio scored the other two.  Outstanding goal keeping by Slater Kucera.  Today is Senior Day, come out at 3:00 and join the LOUD CROWD to make some noise and help our Barons to a victory over Los Al. Good Luck Barons.
