Last week, ASB hosted their dodgeball tournament in the gym during lunch. All students and teachers were invited to participate in the friendly competition.

“I did it last year and I just think its a lot of fun,” said Rilyn Todd (’17), a player in French Toast Mafia.

This event is one of the three sports tournaments held by ASB each year to fundraise and provide ways for the student to come together during lunch. If students are not competing, many are there as spectators.

Luke Jacobsen (’15), a player in Troop 417, said, “[I joined] because last year I got knocked out in the first round and I wanted to redeem myself before I leave high school. I’m a really competitive person that loves little mini games like this.”

It costed $5 per player to enter the game. Each team consisted of a maximum of five players, one of which has to be a girl. Although team uniforms that fit the dress code regulations are suggested, they are not required. A team must win two out of three games in order to advance to the next round. The winning team will receive a prize.

The rules are simple. The players are to stand behind their respective baselines. When the game starts, two players from each team will run and get as many of the five dodgeballs as they can from the centerline. Then the players will continue to throw balls at their opposing team. If a ball hits a player before hitting anything else, such as the floor, then that player is out.  If a player throws the ball and someone on the other team catches it, then the player who originally threw the ball is out. To win, the team  muck knock out  all the players of the opposing team.

“I didn’t expect that I’d be sweating this much after a game but I like the competition. I think its a lot more intense than last year and people are taking it more seriously than last year with all the outfits and just like the overall intensity of the game,” said Jacobsen.

After five days of intense competition, the winning team of this years tournament was the Phantom Troupe.
