MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30th:

Correction to Monday’s Boys Cross Country team announcement.. William Hua lead the way, running 14:54 for 3 miles. This puts him 7th all time in Fountain Valley history.  Sophomore Marc Tadros has run a season best of 15:44, Huy Nguyen 15:59, Jonathan Guevara 16:06, Noah Carr 16:24, Jacob Ferris 16:27, Brendan Hicks 16:41, Freshman Kevin Zimmerle 16:42, Tanner Grohmann 16:46, and Matthew Messick 16:48.  Keep up the good work Barons!

Congratulations to the girl’s JV golf team for both their victories over Estancia High School on Monday and Huntington Beach High School on Tuesday. Their victories were led by Maria Gomez, Vanessa Luong, and team captain Mara James. Keep up the good work, girls!

The girls Varsity Tennis Team lost a very close match against Los Alamitos, 8 to 10.  The JV and Frosh Soph teams had dominating victories, 15 to 3 and 16 to 2.  Great job Baron Tennis!  Next match is against Marina tomorrow, go Barons!

Senior of the Month Applications are due today to be considered for the Month of September.

UC Santa Barbara enrolls almost 23,000 students every year, competition for admission is keen. More than 200 majors, degrees, and credentials offered through UCSB’s five schools. The College of Letters and Science alone offers 80 majors. The College of Creative Studies offers talented students an alternative approach for pursuing advanced, independent work in the arts, mathematics, or the sciences.

To learn more about UCSB and for help with your UC Application attend our UC App Workshop for students on Monday, Oct. 5th from 2-3pm in the Library.

Gooood Morning Barons!!!  As you know by now we are celebrating our 50th year in the education business, tomorrow is our first Throwback ThursdayTomorrow we celebrate the 1960s so students and staff are encouraged to dress up in 60s style outfits such as horned rimmed glasses, skinny ties, tie died shirts, psychedelic color prints, and miniskirts. Congratulations to the girls cross country team who tore through the Sunset League finishing 5-0 at the Sunset League Preview.  The Barons are in first place and hungry for a league championship.  Varsity standouts were Bella Guerra, Kristen Prado, and Ashley Faller.  The JV girls finished 4-1 lead by Vanessa Cruz, Lynn Vo, and Elizabeth Diaz-Cortez.  The meet concluded with the frosh/soph team finishing 4-1 lead by Sara Feitz, Savanna Buhman, and Angela Banquil.  Great Job!!!

Here is your Wednesday College Fun Fact! Today’s focus is on Cal State Long Beach.  Known nationally as “The Beach” it is a hub of diversity, both culturally and intellectually.  Last year FVHS sent 147 seniors to Cal State Long Beach, we are one of the largest feeder schools to their campus. Cal State Long Beach will be attending our College and Career Fair on Wed. Oct. 14th.

Saturday, September 26th, 9am-1pm, FVHS students will have the opportunity to experience a Combo Current SAT and ACT Practice Test. The cost is $25 and the registration deadline is September 23rd, 2015. This practice test is a great tool for students to determine which test is their best option. The test will be conducted in a real test environment. However, results will be emailed only to the students. Students will receive a detail score report outlining strength and weaknesses from each of the practice test. Families will have the opportunity to a free one-on-one phone consultation with a Kaplan Test Advisor. All students are welcome, especially Seniors and Juniors. Seniors who will be taking the Current SAT this is a great practice. Juniors who are debating on whether to take the Current SAT or the New SAT, this will give you an idea as to which to choose.  You can registration on line at bit.ly/FVHS_Combo_Sept_26 or pick up a registration form in the front office.

BAF Membership: Join Baron Academic Foundation at back to school night or through FVHS website. You can locate the site under “Parents” tab, then “Foundation” tab, and then “Membership” at the left side of the page. BAF provides the following for our students:

  • On campus practice SAT/ACT and PSAT tests
  • Homework Club, tutoring, and Sophomore Support
  • Lay Reader for the English and Social Studies Departments
  • Principal’s Honor Roll letters and certificates
  • Grants to assist the various departments: Mathematics, English, Art, Economics, Business, French, Social Studies, Home Studies
  • Meg Kelly Scholarship
  • Student Planners

All proceeds from memberships and donations are used at school for the students. Thank you for your support.

Tomorrow night your Mighty Barons take on West Adams Prep at Huntington Beach at 7:00pm.

Just show your ASB or SB at the game and get in free.  Bring a Freshman to the game!  Do you still owe Saturday School, if you attend the football game tomorrow night and bring a Freshman with you, to the game you will be credited for one Saturday School!  You must have your ID with you and check in at the table inside the gate.  Go Barons!

 The last Saturday School before Homecoming is this Saturday from 7:30 to 11:45am in the cafeteria.  Bring 4 hours of homework and a book to read.  Late arrivals are not admitted.

Dance clearances start tomorrow at the Supervision window.  You must have your school ID and all detentions, campus beautifications and Saturday Schools served in order to receive a clearance slip.  Guest contracts are also available.  Remember, guest tickets may ONLY be purchased with a FVHS student ticket.  Guest tickets are not sold separately.

All school lockers must be claimed by tomorrow or Supervision will lock them up on Monday.

Due to Guidevisement today, BBN will air during BAT tomorrow.

The cost is $25 and the registration deadline is September 23rd, 2015. This practice test is a great tool for students to determine which test is their best option. The test will be conducted in a real test environment. However, results will be emailed only to the students. Students will receive a detail score report outlining strength and weaknesses from each of the practice test. Families will have the opportunity to a free one-on-one phone consultation with a Kaplan Test Advisor. All students are welcome, especially Seniors and Juniors. Seniors who will be taking the Current SAT this is a great practice. Juniors who are debating on whether to take the Current SAT or the New SAT, this will give you an idea as to which to choose

We have one more fresh start opportunity.  Help beautify our campus TODAY from 3:30 until 7pm tonight and we will clear TWO Saturday Schools or up to 16 detentions or campus beautifications.  If you also bring a drought-tolerant plant (no cactus, please) we will clear one more Saturday School or up to 8 detentions or campus beautifications.  We will meet in front of the cafeteria at 3:30.  You will need your school ID to check in.  Wear old clothes; we will be digging up weeds, mulching and planting.

The last Saturday School before Homecoming is this Saturday from 7:30 to 11:45am in the cafeteria.  Bring 4 hours of homework and a book to read.  Late arrivals are not admitted.

The Supervision office will begin issuing dance clearances this Friday at the Supervision window.  You must have your school ID and all detentions, campus beautifications and Saturday Schools served in order to receive a clearance slip.

If you are taking a guest from another school, please pick up a guest contract.  Turn in the completed guest contract to the Supervision office.  This will be your clearance slip also.  Remember, guest tickets may ONLY be purchased with a FVHS student ticket.  Guest tickets are not sold separately.  Please come to the Supervision window if you have any questions.

Please join us for the 1st PTSA meeting of the school year on Monday, September 14th at 7:00 p.m. in the Media Center (Library).  Our new principal, Dr. Morgan Smith will be introducing himself to all of us. After last week’s loss to Servite, the Freshman football team traveled to Long Beach Wilson handing them a crushing defeat, 34-6.  The Baron defense held Wilson scoreless until late in the fourth, led by Tyler Le, Christian Prado, and Mesa Lilii who neutralized their zone read offense.   Behind Brad Knipe, Jackson Weddle, Braunson Garcia, Grant Mixer, and Marlon Pula the Barons scored at will with great plays by Andrew Ross, Brandon Krause, and Jackson Ouellette.  Next week the team travels to Trabuco Hills.  Go Barons!

Parking permits are available on a first-come first-served basis to eligible Juniors and Seniors.  Come to the Supervision window if you are interested in purchasing one.  Please remember, you must have a valid permit to park in any parking lot on campus, in the church lot or at Valley Vista High School.

Any student interested in the Free and Reduced Lunch Program can pick up an application in the Admin Bldg.  If you qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch you will also qualify for SAT and ACT waivers and possibly free college applications. If you would like to participate in the Reflections Art Competition please visit capta.org or pick up an entry form in the Activities Office.  Complete an original piece of artwork based on the theme and submit it by the deadline.  Submissions are due Friday October 9th by 3pm in the front office. All students must have a lock on their ASSIGNED locker by this Friday.  Any student found to be using a locker not assigned to them will lose their locker privileges for the school year.  All unlocked lockers after September 4th will be reissued to a student who was not assigned a locker.  Please come to the supervision window at lunch or after school if you do not have a locker and would like one.

If your school day ends before lunch, please show your ID and schedule to campus supervision as you leave through the gates until stickers are available.

Parking permits are available on a first-come first-served basis to eligible Juniors and Seniors.  Come to the Supervision window if you are interested in purchasing one.  Please remember, you must have a valid permit to park in any parking lot on campus, in the church lot or at Valley Vista High School.

Barons, do you feel as though you are buried in overdue Detentions and Saturday Schools?  Do you want to get cleared so that you can go to Homecoming or get a lunch pass or parking permit?  Well, we want you to be able to earn a fresh start and have the ability to earn your privileges back, so on Saturday September 5th and Wednesday September 9th, if you attend and actively participate beautifying our campus, you will be credited with double hours of service!  For example, on Wednesday September 9th you serve from 3:30p – 7:30p you will be credited with 8 hours of time to apply to detentions and or Saturday Schools.  If you have any questions, please see the Supervision window.

Hey students, remember College Fun Fact Wednesdays?  Every Wednesday you will find teachers, staff and Admin wearing college t-shirts or jackets.  We do this to “start a discussion”  ask your teachers and staff questions, like: how did you pick Cal St Long Beach, did you go straight to a 4yr college or did you start at a Community College?  How did you know you wanted to become a teacher?  Did you go away to college?  What was your experience like?   Every Wed we will have announcements with different Colleges and Career information.  Join us in the discussion and wearing your own college “gear” every Wednesday!

If you do not have an ID card…. you can get one again today, in the Media Center from 7:00am to 3:00pm.  You must have an ID & your schedule to check out books.

Welcome Back Barons!  The FVHS Theatre Department would like to welcome you all back to this exciting new school year and invite you to be a  part of our fall production, The Crucible.  Auditions are happening fast.  There is an audition workshop Friday August 28th in room 309 at 3:00 and Auditions begin on Monday August 31st at 3:00 in room 309.  Crew Interviews will take place on Tuesday September 1st in room 135.  Please see Mr. Zick for Audition info and to answer any questions.  Have a great first week of school.
