Fountain Valley High School now offers a Pharmacy Technician ROP to students as a year long course on campus.

The ROP is taught by Morris Sianturi, a  Pharmaceutical  Technician. The class is offered 5th period and has 37 students,  including juniors and seniors, currently enrolled.

In the past Sianturi has taught at Mt. San Jacinto junior college, Riverside City college and Jurupa High School. His goal for this upcoming year is to teach students the basic fundamentals of the Pharmacy Technician profession.

“Also, I would show the students how to be professional out in the field,” said Sianturi.

Students in the class have been learning brand and generic names for prescription medications, and their goal is to learn the classifications of the top 200 drugs.

Some students like Miriam Benyameen (‘16) joined because they want to pursue a career in pharmacy when they grow up.

“I’m excited to be able to learn more about the pharmacy field and eventually work as a pharmacist technician, since when I grow up I want to be a pharmacist,” said Benyameen.

Others like Aatena Hasan (‘16) joined the class to see if they were interested in the medical field.

“As for my major…I’m a bit confused about that. I’m hoping that this class can either confirm or deny my thoughts,” said Hasan.
