Girls varsity tennis won their first home game against Marina last week with a score of 13-5.

The teams exceptional skills allowed them to take home a victory for Fountain Valley.

Every player that played in a doubles match won their game against Marina. Players Hanh Pham (’18) and Giao Phan (’16) won their matches in singles with Hanh Pham winning all three of her matches and Giao Phan winning one of her matches. After two losses this season, the landslide victory was the incentive the girls needed to start off their season running.

“Our first two matches have been challenging against tough teams, so pulling this win against Marina was a huge confidence boost and the momentum we need going into the rest of the season,” said Ruth Nguyen(’16), Varsity Captain of the girls tennis team.

“The team is starting to get back on our feet and finding our place and rank within the Sunset League,” said  player Carolyn Ta (’16). “We’ve had a tough start in season against Newport Beach and Los Al, but it’s getting better now.”

It’s early in the season for girls tennis and the team is still adjusting to each players strengths and needs in order to maximize the potential of all of its players.

“We’re switching up our line up back and forth trying to see what works and honestly, it’s just a team effort,” said Ta. “If we all put in 100 percent, we get more wins, but we’ve been having a lot of injuries lately.”
