“Spook-It-Yourself” Week Three: Costumes

Have you not given much thought about your Halloween costume? Are you frantically looking for a good idea? Do you not want to spend a lot of money? Well, here are some fast and easy DIY costumes guaranteed to make you look “boo-tiful”.

Totoro

Materials Needed

  • gray shirt
  • gray beanie
  • gray fabric
  • iron on white felt
  • Sharpie
  • Fiber-fill
  • Iron
  • Scissors
  • Needle
  • Thread

Instructions

  1. Cut the white felt into a tombstone shape. Then cut upside down smiley-faces on top in two rows of three.
  2. Iron onto gray shirt.
  3. Cut gray fabric into four skinny, tall tombstone shapes. Sew two pieces together to make one ear, and then turn inside out. Repeat for other ear.
  4. Stuff ears with Fiber-fill. Then sew onto gray beanie.
  5. Take remaining iron on white felt pieces and cut two circles for the eyes, a mouth shape, and a small triangle for the nose. Draw pupils, teeth, and color in triangle with Sharpie. Iron onto beanie.
  6. Wear with gray or black bottoms.

Where’s Waldo?

Materials Needed

  • White long sleeve shirt or sweater
  • Red beanie
  • Red fabric paint
  • Sponge brushes
  • Painters tape

Instructions

  1. Take the shirt or sweater and place the tape across the shirt and sleeves horizontally on the front and back to make the stripes. Place them to desired thickness.
  2. Take the paint and dab it on the sections with no tape on it, making the red and white striped pattern. Make sure to paint with even coats and let dry.
  3. Repeat the same steps with beanie if desired.
  4. Pair with jeans, brown boots and glasses.

Materials Needed

  • Black and white striped shirt
  • Black beanie
  • Black jeans
  • Old pillowcase
  • Print out of money sign
  • Black paper (optional)
  • String (optional)

Instructions

  1. Gather all materials listed above and put them on.
  2. Take the old pillowcase and tape the money sign on it.
  3. To make a mask if desired, cut out two eyeholes in a piece of paper and two holes near the ends of the sides.
  4. Thread string through the holes at the end and tie around head.
