With the Bell Game this Friday, students should not only get ready for the actual game, but also the Glow Show the night before.

“It’s the one event where everyone comes together. We’re waving the lights together and we’re all having fun,” said Victor Nguyen (’16). “It hypes up the Bell Game and encourages students to attend the Bell Game itself.”

The Bell Game is the culmination of Fountain Valley High School’s and Edison High School’s rivalry. The Bell Game is a tradition with the winning school taking the Bell for an entire year. However, while the Bell Game has become a tradition, so has the Glow Show.

The Glow Show is now Fountain Valley’s way of stirring excitement among the students for the yearly Bell Game. It is run and organized by the Associated School Body (ASB) with help from some students from Baron Broadcast News (BBN). The Glow Show takes place after school. Students can expect a huge variety of food trucks to arrive at 5:30 P.M., but the actual show does not start until 7:30 PM.

Once the clock strikes 7:30 P.M. the sun begins to set and the sky to get darker; this sets the perfect stage for the Glow Show. The show derives its name from the countless glow sticks that are passed out to the students that attend. The glow sticks flash a variety of colors and once the night begins, students are given instructions to wave their glow sticks to demonstrate their spirit and support for their football team.

“The Glow Show…brings out the school spirit right before one of the biggest games of the year. So it doesn’t hurt to have everyone’s school spirit up,” said Chris Diep (’16).

Not only does the Glow Show demonstrate the school’s support for its football team but also helps ease freshman into school tradition.

“I don’t know [what the Glow Show is]. I know it’s at night and that there’s food trucks that’s basically all. But I’m excited to just experience it, I’ve never been to one, but I think it will be fun for me. I plan on going every year it sounds like a lot of fun,” said Mason Chan (’19).
