Fellow barons improvise in getting involved

Sophomore Caroline Murdock stands tall in her hat alongside her team as they are about to begin what is the last improv show of the 2015 school year.

Murdock has been doing improv since freshman year and practices four hours a week. She dedicates her Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3-5 pm towards becoming a better improv actor and becoming someone her team can rely on.

Murdock joined improv because she was curious to see what it was about. After joining she realized improv could teach her skills that would help apply to life and the real world, such as being confident and being able to adapt to sudden situations.

“Improv has made me more confident because before I was… worrying about school. Improv makes me more comfortable in my own skin. Everyone is really supportive and it’s so much fun to be apart of,” Murdock (‘18) said.

Murdock sees joining improv as a very beneficial thing to her because it can turn her day around in a way that always places a smile on her face.

“It makes me happy if I’m in a bad mood or if I’m upset,” Murdock said.

What goes through her mind is always, “Alright let’s do this!” Even when she has her downs, she says, “That game went okay for me, there’s always next time,” to encourage herself to put more effort into it.

For Murdock, the best part about improv is making new friends and being able to perform with all kinds of  different people.

“Improv holds a special place in my heart. It takes time, dedication, and hard work to be good at what you love and do,” Murdock concluded.

Three improv shows have occurred this past semester and there are plans for another one this January.
