On Thursday, March 24, Barons baseball played their first League game against Marina, but unfortunately lost with a score of 3-0.

Our boys, however, showed great teamwork and communication, hustling with amazing plays in the outfield and hard hits when they were up to bat. Travis Burleson (’16) pitched roaring fast balls that wiped out Marina in the first and second inning.

Approaching the bottom of the third, Marina had scored one run, prompting our Barons to play even harder. Although Justin Yang (’17) managed to get good hits in, Fountain Valley remained scoreless as Marina put hard pressure on the team.

By the fourth inning, Marina had scored another run, but the Barons refused to give in and continued to give it their all against Marina with amazing plays made by Michael Murphy (’17) and plays by catcher Justin Mazzone (’17). Despite this, our Barons still had not scored any runs and Marina managed to score another run in the fifth inning.

With great defense and pitches, however, Fountain Valley wiped out Marina in the sixth and seventh innings, not allowing Marina to score towards the end of the game.

In spite of this loss, Barons plan to work hard and play even harder in their upcoming League games. Their next game is Friday, April 8, against Huntington Beach High School.

“For this game, we could’ve played better and as a team, I feel that we need to improve our hitting. This upcoming match against HB is a very important game and we will have to play almost perfect baseball,” said Yang.
