Baron girls volleyball lost their first match of the official season this Thursday to the Edison Chargers at Fountain Valley High School with scores of 20-25, 12-25 and 11-25. The barons were lead by seniors Amy Hinnant (‘17) and Kennedy Hood (‘17) as they faced the brutal force of the Chargers.

The girls started off strong with a lead of 8-4 in the first game, but lost momentum due to unenforced errors such as missed serves, net violations and being out of rotation. Blockers Kennedy Hood (‘17) and Rilyn Todd (‘17) shut down Edison’s best hitter in the first game, causing the opposing chargers to stumble.

The Barons also struggled in serve receive, but Hinnant had some clutch digs against the opposing team’s best hitter, a commit to University of California, Los Angeles. Hinnant also brought some powerful spikes throughout the game, trying to bring the Lady Barons’ score up.

“I think we started off really strong and our momentum kind of slowed down as we went through the sets and we got in our heads. I think that’s the reason why we lost,” said Hinnant.

In the final set, Edison was in the lead 0-6 but the girls fought as hard as they could. They had better defense in this set, but unfortunately couldn’t get enough points in, ending the game 11-25.

“I think we came out pretty intimidated. I loved the energy from the crowd and everything and I thought that was so cool and awesome and the girls really fed off that. But we didn’t bring our A game and I think [Edison’s] the best team in the league,” said Coach Connor Olbright.
