This year, Badminton Club has been renewed after two years of not existing. Alyson Smith, a physical education teacher at Fountain Valley High School, and Quynh Tran (‘18) are the leaders of this club. They anticipate to achieve many things this year.

Tran created this club after playing the sport in physical education and wanting to play more. The main purpose of the club is to bring people who love badminton together, according to Tran. So far, they will be only holding badminton scrimmages among their own club, but they hope to make this sport California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) certified and play competitively against other schools.

“The school is working on it to make it an official sport, but we will have competitions with other schools in near future. We will still have competitions within the club,” said Tran.

Tran really hopes this club will go far in the name of badminton. She is very excited and hopeful for this new club.

As for other schools in the Huntington Beach School District, Marina is the only school that has an official team. Edison and Huntington Beach have neither a club nor a team.

“[The club’s] really organized and fun. I’m looking forward to it,” said Doan Tran (’18), a new member of the club.

The Badminton Club will be holding meetings every Tuesdays and Fridays in the gym during lunch.
