FVHS Choir presents Hope. Light. Love

by Maria Gerges, Staff Writer

After months of preparing for the Fall Preview Concert on Oct. 12, the Fountain Valley High School vocal music program performed at Orange Coast College theatre. The choirs, ranging from beginning boys and girls choir to the highest choir, Troubadours, all got ready for this concert in different ways.

Concert Choir prepared for this concert by practicing everyday during third period. Alongside this, the choir took a trip to the mountains from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1. During this trip, they had rehearsals for almost ten hours each day. The choir also learned to connect with each other and create many friendships. This trip is highly valuable for the group, according to Kevin Tison, as the students cover three weeks worth of rehearsal in these three days.

Many people don’t realize how much work all the choir students put into their practice in order to produce the beautiful sounds that can be heard during their concerts. Students of all levels have to learn how to read music and understand it in depth in order to perform it correctly. They learn how to blend together and link their voices. This proves to be a difficult task sometimes because the students don’t always stand next to their colleagues of the same section.

On Wednesday, the students proved to have mastered this beautiful blend as they sang their songs and projected their voices across the hall.

Tison, as well as the Student Directors and Choir Presidents, put an incredible amount of effort into this concert. Tison pours all his time and focus in order to help every group advance into a higher level. The student directors make sure that everyone is in shape and that everyone is ready to perform at any time.

The title of the concert, Hope. Light. Love, was reflected in all the song choices throughout the concert. All the songs had the ideas of hope, light and love and portrayed their own messages. Concert Choir sang The Human Heart, Light, Light of a Clear Blue Morning, Seasons of Love, and Alleluia. Each one of these songs hold the messages presented in the title.

Every time there is a concert, the audience should know how passionate all the students are about their work. After every concert, students reflect to make sure they advance and learn from what they did well and what needs to change. They always perform in the best way possible in order display their hard work and efforts. Additionally, all the soloists spend extra hours in order to perfect their parts. Every single member of the group knows how valuable their part is in the team.

Next time you are able to go to one of the choir concerts, listen attentively and know that every intricate detail has been planned meticulously to create a beautiful picture at the end.

The upcoming concert will include the holiday concert, Deck the Halls with a Little Jazz on Dec. 9. Make sure to come and invite all your family and friends in order to get into the holiday spirit right before going into the two week break.
