On Wednesday, Oct. 26, the varsity boys water polo team played at Newport Harbor High School against Edison. Despite fighting hard, they fell short with a score of 7-8.

They fought hard and were close to winning, going into overtime. Their hard work was evident through their persistence and perseverance throughout the game. The team members’ families and friends cheered on the boys passionately that night.

“I think we played alright but Edison had a good game plan against us. We made a lot of bad passes and turned the ball over way too much,” said Senior Captain Ben Schmiesing (’17). “We also missed a lot of easy chances to score and that really affected our moral and caused us to tire out quickly.”

Notable goalie, Jake Hunyen (‘18), throughout the game blocked many attempts made by the opposing team. During the second quarter, Justin Yang (‘20) scored a goal after passing the Edison boys. During fourth quarter, Adam Manchini (‘17)  tried to score a goal but was stopped by Edison.

During the fourth quarter, Kyle Fusco (‘17) fought against the Chargers; he was finally able to score the goal and increase the team’s energy. The crowd’s enthusiasm rose again as  Adam Muchini (‘17) scored another goal.

The FVHS boys water polo is currently 0-3 in the Sunset League.

“We played below our expectations because we had beat them this last weekend, but as I said they had a good game plan against us on Wednesday,” said Schmiesing.
