For the past 18 years, Fountain Valley High School (FVHS) has been the home of media services technician, Sam Blais.

Blais was working at the Huntington Beach Union District office when he was presented with the opportunity of working at FVHS. The person who was previously in charge of the textbooks at FVHS got injured, and Blais quickly jumped at the chance to take advantage of the offer.

“Once I started doing the job, I fell in love with it. I really liked working with the kids [at FVHS],” said Blais.

As a media services technician, Blais is required to constantly be on his feet as he is responsible for supplying the 3,800 students with textbooks in addition to maintaining the projectors in each classroom. He also picks up the testing supplies and receives all the furniture for every classroom and equipment for the athletic departments at FVHS as well.

Another huge part of Blais’s job is to make sure resources are available for the staff and students to put to use, such as stocking the materials in the duplication room so that people can make copies if needed.

After the first few weeks of school when students finally have all their textbooks checked out, Blais gets rid of things people no longer use on campus, which includes the E-waste containers.

When a student loses his or her book, Blais’s job is to make sure they have all the supplies and materials needed to succeed in school, although he’ll track a student down if they don’t turn in a textbook at the end of the year. In addition, a few pet peeves of his are when students use their textbook as an umbrella on rainy days or as a frisbee to throw around with their friends.

He watches sporting events on television in his free time and calls himself an avid Broncos fan. He plays golf and enjoys spending time with his dogs as well.

Blais is proud to say he is a “Baron for life” after the eighteen years spent at FVHS working with the students and faculty around him.
