This year, The Sister Association of Huntington Beach is looking for freshmen through juniors attending a high school within the Huntington Beach Union High School District to be “Ambassadors of Goodwill”.

“Ambassadors of Goodwill” will participate in a reciprocal student exchange program hosted by the Sister Association of Huntington Beach. Each Ambassador will host a student from Anjo, Japan, for two weeks in early July of 2017 in Huntington Beach. In exchange, each Ambassador will be traveling to Anjo, Japan, for the first two weeks of August, 2017.  During their stay, they are able to be a part of the July 4th Parade in Huntington Beach.  While in Japan, the students are able to enjoy being involved in Anjo’s Tanabata Festival.

The program allows students to experience far more than as simple tourists. Students should consider the exchange program because it’s a unique opportunity to experience a different culture and to learn different ways to do things.  They can make lifelong friends and obtain appreciation for not only their own country, but the thousands of other countries around them.  Participating in the program also allows for a beneficial item on your college application. To participate in the program, no knowledge of th Japanese language is required.

“It is an experience you will never forget; not only will you make lifelong friends but you will obtain an appreciation for your own country that you may not have had previously,” said Carmen Erber, someone who has been involved in the program for many years.
