The Influence of Motion Pictures

Written by Chloe Dinh

All it takes is a simple thought to grow into an idea, which leads to the production and carries into a video that has the power to move an audience.
From Glow Show Promo to PDA PSAs, Pauline Thach [my partner] and I decided to take a different route from typical news, to create a video that will remind students of how wonderful our diverse school is and not allow differences to divide, but to unite. Inspired by the controversial videos about the recent election seen all over Facebook, Twitter, T.V, etc., the idea that came to mind was to gather diverse ethnicities and sexualities from our school for the purpose of recognizing each individual as one and the same despite those perceived differences. At that time, those individual’s voices needed to be heard more than ever, because those actions of discrimination or prejudice was NOT something that belonged in our school or our community.

Rather than reading an article [as you are now], a message carried within a video can make an impact by giving you a complete visual of the everything. With the visuals, it sucks you in and you feel as though you are in the same exact moment.

“[Film] ..It’s probably the best option if you actually want to change the world, not just re-decorate it.” – Banksy

I was stunned when I heard about all the positive responses from the student body and school staff. The video ended up on the school website and was emailed to every student.
Needless to say, there are no official rules in film. Any idea can be produced into a wonderful video that can have the potential to impact and spread awareness to your audience.
