On March 12 and 19, Fountain Valley KIWIN’S will be hosting a Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP) Festival during Fountain Valley High School’s (FVHS) Spring Fest in the cafeteria.

PTP is a program that works to raise money for families who have been affected by tragedies and raise awareness about preventable accidents and injuries that affect children. These unintentional injuries, like car crashes, homicide or suicide, are the leading causes of deaths in children 14 years or younger.

The purpose of safety day is to stress the importance of caution in dangerous situations, in addition to educating the public about what PTP is.  Having the event during Spring Fest allows FV KIWIN’S to promote these ideals to a wider audience.

“This [is] an amazing opportunity to reach out to the eighth graders and newer kids in our community. I was inspired to reach out to these kids and teach them about how to be safe,” said FV KIWIN’S Vice President Calvin Tran.

Before planning the event, Tran received the funding for the festival by applying for the PTP grant, which gives different KIWIN’S clubs and Key Clubs the opportunity to win money for any service event related to program.

The festival will have different activities and booths including a scavenger hunt, egg toss, build-your-own safety kit and a popcorn machine. Other clubs are also helping with event the event, such as Science Olympiad and PALS. A firefighter will be coming to discuss his job and how students can take precautions to prevent accidents from happening.

“[The festival] enforces the whole… purpose of Pediatric Trauma Program with educating the community while doing it in a fun and creative way, so I think it’s going to be a huge success,” said Tran.
