Social media plays a big part in our lives, and many have turned to blogs to express themselves. With a few years already under the belt, juniors Sean Le and Kelly Nguyen are quickly becoming masters at the art of blogging.

Le was first introduced to blogging at an early age of eight when he saw the movie, “Julie & Julia.”

“In the movie, ‘Julie & Julia,’ [Julie’s] profession is making blogs and recreating Julia Child recipes. From that movie, [I was] inspired to do two things I love. One blogging and two cooking,” said Le.

Since then, Le created a blog posting his favorite recipes. As time progressed, his blog slowly changed from a food blog to a fashion-lifestyle blog with the occasional food post.

As Le continued to dive into the world of blogging, interacting with others online helped him to improve.

“[Blogging] has really affected the way I interact with people and helped get to know more people today. Also just everyone sharing their ideas just builds up and up and that just how we grow in our interest. For example, ever since I started blogging, my cooking has gotten a 100 times better just because I get to learn new things and techniques. Blogging is really great in that sense,” said Le.

Unlike Le with only one year of experience, Nguyen is new to the scene of blogging, but this doesn’t stop her from her expressing her passion. She became interested in response to the various bloggers she followed on Instagram and decided to give blogging a try.

“Since I’ve started blogging, I’ve been able to be more open online. I’ve been able to express myself and my aesthetic,” said Nguyen.

Instead of creating a traditional website blog, Nguyen saw the blogging scene as something more versatile.

“For blogging, I found that it doesn’t have to be a blog site. It could be anything, like a photo collection, a website or just Instagram could be your blog,” said Nguyen.

Despite the difference in years of blogging experiences, Le and Nguyen came together to create Fountain Valley Blogger’s Society (FVBS) after seeing that FVHS didn’t offer any club that would unite people of different passions.

“Looking at the clubs offered, I thought ‘How come there’s no club for people with all passions to come together and unite in one sense?’ and I think blogging was the best choice for that. You can have any passion, any interest you have, but everyone can blog about anything they want,” said Le.

At each of their meetings, Le and Nguyen have presented lessons to basics of blogging and setting up social media accounts.

“To people started to blog, blogging may seem hard in the beginning, but it is really hard because obviously you’re not going to start with many followers and you’re going to get discourage. The best thing to do is to just stick with it no matter how discouraging it may be and the end results will really be worth it,” said Le.
