Many students today choose to drive their own cars instead of much more environmentally friendly alternatives. Using bikes as a source of transportation has many benefits to both you and the environment.

Bike riding is a great environmentally friendly alternative to driving cars as it helps to prevent more CO2 emittance into the atmosphere. With more and more people driving cars, CO2 is released in high amounts into the atmosphere. Its effect is detrimental to the planet and contributes as research has shown it leads to climate change.

“I think that choosing other forms of transport such as buses or bikes over using cars is very important because together, it all has one big impact,” said senior Christine Dang.

Exercise has been proven to boost brainpower. Hopping on a bike for just 30 minutes a day has proven to have benefits such as increased concentration and memory. According to studies from Charles Hillman, bike riding is a great form of exercise that can help increase brain function as it is a stimulating activity. Exercise in the form of bike riding has also shown to help control issues like ADD.

“Riding my bike helps me to clear my thoughts and relax my mind. At times, it can be really therapeutic and great for your mental health,” said senior Andrew Tran.

Bike riding definitely has health effects as well, as it can help to prevent disease, improve your heart and build muscle. Biking helps to make our bodies stronger by stimulating muscle growth and heart and increasing functions, all of which help to ward off disease. With bike riding, you can be knowledgeable and have a daily form of exercise that helps improve health.

The costs of driving or other modes of transport are starkly contrast bike riding as well. Bikes aren’t costly, so they’re easy for many people to purchase. With bikes, you also won’t need to pay for expenses such as gasoline, oil changes, etc. Bike riding can save the environment, your health and your wallet at the same time.
