On Thursday, Peer Assistance Leadership (PAL) students attended WE Day, an event filled with students from all parts of California and all walks of life came together to celebrate making an impact in the communities around us. The event was hosted at the Forum in Los Angeles.

Students could only attend through invitation by accumulating either service hours or dedicating their time to WE events. However, WE schools, which are schools that have WE clubs, have priority.

The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) introduced FVHS PAL to WE day and allowed them to be put on the list of attendees. PAL logged in their hours to the WE organization and once they reached a certain goal, they were given the green light to go.

This year, 16 students were able to attend the event along with two chaperones, PAL advisor Joanna Jones and English teacher Elise Hamilton.

The day itself was filled with guest speakers, A-list celebrities and students from across the country. Morgan Freeman, Selena Gomez, Will Ferrell and more spoke at the event bringing attention. Students including Cameron Kasky and Jacyln Corin of the March for our Lives movement spoke about the impact of change. Performances were utilized to keep the audience energized from various artists such as The Chainsmokers and Jessie Reyes.

For the majority of the time, students were seated listening to the various WE organization videos filled with their movement “WE volunteer NOW”.

“WE day was super inspirational and well needed for everyone. It was a great opportunity that I got to attend and really opened my eyes and I’m sure for everyone else too what good people are doing for the rest of the world,” said sophomore and PALs member Brandon Truong. “It really motivates me and my classmates for sure to participate in this sort of revolution that’s happening through our generation.”
