Scott Panique, assistant football coach, dies at 38

This past weekend, Scott Panique, the linebacker coach for Fountain Valley High School’s varsity football team, passed away unexpectedly.

Panique grew up in Santa Ana where he graduated from Mater Dei High School in 1998. He had a successful high school football career and later walked-on at the University of Michigan. During his four years as a Wolverine, Panique played as a backup fullback during which he was a part of Michigan’s 2000 Orange Bowl Championship team. Aside from football, Scott earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 2002, where he majored in sports management and communications. He worked full-time in the mortgage banking industry.

Before joining the football staff at Fountain Valley in 2016, he coached at Lakewood High School. Panique was 38.

Panique is survived by his father, Ken, his mom, Marilyn, his sister, Lisa, and his brother, Brian.

A rosary for Panique will take place at Mater Dei at 7 p.m. on Sunday. Panique’s funeral will be the held at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Newport Beach on Monday at 11 a.m.
