On Tuesday, the Barons varsity field hockey team lost to Edison High School with the score of 0-2.

The Barons made a statement in the first quarter with strong defense from junior Mackenzie Esquer and senior Lina Luu who made several blocks against the Chargers’ powerful offense.

Despite strong defense from Esquer and Luu, the Chargers scored at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Barons’ defense intensified against Edison but resulted in their first defensive short corner of the game. The Chargers had a few attempts to score but ultimately failed as Esquer blocked and kept the score 0-1 going into halftime.

Edison went on the offensive in the third quarter and the Barons received another defensive short corner. Despite the Charger’s aggressive plays, the team prevented Edison from scoring further.

During the final quarter, the Barons faced many close calls and gained another defensive short corner which resulted in a goal from Edison, bringing up the score 0-2. Esquer continued her powerful defense but ultimately was unable to stop the scoring hit.

The Chargers made many last-minute bids to up the score but the Barons refused to give up and the match ended in a 0-2 score.

Despite not securing a win against their rival, the team was proud of how hard they played and how long they held the Chargers off for.

“I think we played really well today. Unfortunately we only had one ref so not everything was called, which caused a goal against us. But even with that, we all played our best and never gave up,” said Esquer.
