The Barons’ varsity field hockey team shut out Westminster High School with a dominating score of 7-0.

Within the first three minutes of the first quarter, the Barons showed a spark with an attempted goal from sophomore right forward Taryn Robinson. However, despite strong offense from the Barons,  and successfully got three short offensive corners, they fell short of scoring.

In the second quarter, the Baron’s offense intensified against Westminster with excellent aggressive gameplay from Robinson and juniors Madison Grogan and Mackenzie Esquer. The Barons had numerous attempts to score and got their first goal halfway through the second quarter by senior side midfielder Keilani Velasco.

The Barons then score two more goals from Grogan and midfielder Sam Josephson, bringing up the halftime score to 3-0.

Westminster went on the offensive in the third quarter. The Barons received a defensive short corner but due to their aggressive plays, the Barons were able to score twice more against the Lions.

During the final quarter, the Barons continued their strong offense and scored three more times to bring up the score to 6-0.

The Lions made many last-minute bids to score their first goal but the Barons refused to give up and scored a final time as the match ended in 7-0.

Securing a win against Westminster made the team proud of how hard they played and will keep their hopes up about moving forward.

“We worked really well as a team and were able to accomplish what we set out to do.  Together we kept fighting and it reflected in the outcome of our game. As a team we’ve made improvements that will help us move forward,” said Josephson.
